The Main Game

Dr. Marilyn KaganWait 'Til You Have Kids! is a short-lived game that involves 3 couples predicting what a parenting expert would do in different dilemmas that could happen with kids. A topic is posed to all the couples and a short video with a child talking about a situation that relates to that topic is shown. After the video, the host poses a question about that topic with 3 possible solutions. The couple decides as a team which answer is best. If their answer matches what the expert believes is best, points are scored. The first question is worth 1 point, the second question worth 2, and the third question is worth 3 points.

Tom ParksFor the final dilemma, each player can independently choose which solution that person believes is most appropriate. The old guy's going for CEach correct answer for the final question is worth 4 points. The couple with the most points advances to the bonus round. If a tie occurs, one potential situation is given (Example that was used on WTYHK!: Your 15 year old wants to be a game show host.) Each team decides if that statement is a problem or if that's OK. The team that is right moves to the bonus game. For winning the main game, the couple wins a prize, usually a sofa or a refrigerator.

The bonus round

Is it a problem or is it OK?Situations are read (similar to the 15 year old who wants to be a game show host) to the couple. After each statement, one member of the couple decides if that statement could cause a problem or is an OK statement. If the answer is correct, a window in a house lights up. After each reply, the members change places. If all 7 windows of the house light up before 60 seconds expire, the couple wins a prize package, usually a trip plus $1000 cash but a jet ski or a Geo Metro was occasionally offered, primarily during the final weeks of WTYHK!'s run. If the couple does not light all 7 windows, the couple wins a gift certificate worth $100 per window lit.

Additional notes

* For the first 8 weeks of WTYHK!'s run, Dr. Ellen Winters was the child expert, the set looked like it was from a cartoon, and the theme music sounded like a child wrote it.
* For the final 5 weeks, after a brief hiatus around Christmas 1996, Dr. Marilyn Kagan was the child expert, the set had the feel of a living room, and the music was much classier.
* Wait 'Til You Have Kids! also has the distinction of being one of 2 game shows ("The Last Word" being the other) to have an official car, the aforementioned 1997 Geo Metro.
