World Calendar Begins Data Collection

April 18, 1999 - World Calendar launched its worldwide events search engine today after more than two years in development. Event planners and tourist boards are invited to begin submitting events for free. As soon as a destination is entered, World Calendar will publicize the search engine in that destination. Since the search engine must be live to collect events, that means that it is also live for users to search for events anywhere in the world. The database contains 6,000 past events which were used for development and testing. This sampling of events from 85 countries plus Arizona, California, and Washington will allow users to see how the search engine works.

Each event also receives a FREE event web page and its own URL which the event planner can submit to search engines.

World Calendar's source of income is through exclusive, targeted banner advertising. A maximum of three banners will be sold annually in each destination or under each keyword or combination of keyword and destination. These exclusive positions are expected to sell fast. Now is the time to lock into a position, before World Calendar reaches its data collection goals in several months. Banner advertisers have the first right of refusal for annually renewing their banner position. It is expected that as the popularity of World Calendar grows and the database reaches one million events worldwide, these exclusive positions will be quickly sold out.
