Parishioners and Students Team Up for Homeless Shelter

Saint Rita Parish annually serves the community as the Wednesday night shelter for homeless persons in the Racine area. Annually, the school's 8th graders have acted as the setup crew for the program, laying out the bedding and preparing the church hall for the needs of the homeless. The other students play a part, too. On Tuesday the school sponsors Uniform-Shirt-Untucked Days, for all students bringing a donation for bus tokens or a needed food or hygiene item. Though our students are not old enought to work directly with the homeless, they have a better understanding of the lives of those less fortunate. The program runs in area churches from October through April of each year.
