     Respect Life Month

  At the end of August, pastors, parish directors and high school principals will receive the annual Respect Life Program materials from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities. The 2003-2004 theme is "Life is a Miracle," and resources include posters, a liturgy guide, a sample flier, clip art, articles on Church teaching, and a list of pro-life publications. Please share these excellent resources with parish and school leaders and committees. Materials can be used during October Respect Life Month or at other times of the year. Topics for this year are:
  • Women Deserve Better than Abortion, by Serrin M. Foster;
  • Human Cloning vs. Human Dignity, by Richard M. Doerflinger;
  • The Question of Imperfect Legislation, by Cardinal John O'Connor;
  • Physician-assisted Suicide: The Approach to End of Life Care, by F. Michael Gloth III, M.D.;
  • We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us, by Maureen Kramlich, Esq.;
  • Political Responsibility: The Virtue of Rugged Hope, by Michael A. Taylor, S.T.D.;
  • Ten Legal Reasons to Reject Roe, by Susan Willis, Esq.;
  • The Myth of Overpopulation and the Folks Who Brought It to You, by Austin Ruse.

Parishes wishing to order extra sets of 2003-2004 Respect Life Program materials (complete set is $5 plus postage) in English or Spanish can call (866) 582-0943. The 2002-2003 articles on posted on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops website in English and Spanish and are available here.

Numerous websites provide pro-life resources. A list is available here.

The Office for Human Concerns is compiling a parish e-mail list to send Respect Life information and action alerts from the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and the USCCB. Information will be sent to all pastors, parish directors and human concerns chairs. If someone else is responsible for your parish Respect Life effots, please notify Peg Flahive so that person's name and e-mail address can be added to the list.
