Laguna Beach/MTV event raised $10,000 for
SAVE
Dieter’s
run a huge success! On December 19, 2004, Dieter Schmitz
from MTV’s Laguna Beach television show completed his
ambitious goal of biking 50 miles and running 23 miles from
San Diego State University to Laguna Beach. Hundreds of fans
and supports showed up at the finish line at his hometown
high school in Laguna Beach to cheer him on after this grueling
day long event. Also at the event were television and newspaper
reporters, the cast of the MTV show, and Dieter’s family.
Along the wall of the football field Dieter’s friends
posted all of the hundreds of emails he received from people
all across the country.
SAVE’s Executive Director,
Dan Reidenberg, was on hand to accept the check from Dieter
for $10,000 raised in only 2 short months. Dan presented
Dieter with a signed letter from Governor Arnold Schwarzzeneger
in support of this event and a gift from SAVE.
“It
was an incredible feat that Dieter completed this for SAVE.
He raised a tremendous amount of money, awareness, and education
on teen depression that has already helped many across the
United States (Dan Reidenberg).”
