Angel vs. Spike was the
tag for both this episode and the game, and neither vampire disappointed in
their display of tactics and counter tactics. Spike was first to strike with
the impressive use of the flashback tactic, which he had utilised well back on
Buffy for two of his three golds. Angel countered though by showing up in the
past as Angelus. With that tactic thwarted, the action moved into the present,
taking Dru, appearing in her first Angel episode for 3 years out of the
picture.
Another cunning
tactic was the use of fighting while snarking, this not only took valuable
talking time away from the other characters, but also enabled Angel and Spike
to talk whilst fighting. In the end though Angel thwarted all of Spike’s tactics, and used his freindship
with the other characters to extract a few bonus lines, that gave him the edge.
Spike’s similar attempts with Gunn and Harmony failed, Gunn preferring to speak
with Angel, whilst Harmony tried to kill him.
But it wasn’t all Angel
and Spike, honest. Eve actually came pretty close to winning a medal, until
Gunn stepped in to strangle her, in a wonderful move that not only preventing
her from speaking, but gave Gunn a one line advantage to win bronze. Fred
performed poorly, though. As did Lorne, who between barricading himself in his
office, and dealing with showbiz clients, it’s a wonder his scored any lines
this year. Worse still though was Wes, who after achieving his record high last
week, missed his first ever episode as a regular. Finally Lindsey returned
after a 3 year absence, but if he wants to perform well this year, then his
going to have to do better than cameo’s.
