The season began with Anne, and unsurprisingly Buffy dominating yet again, scoring 87 in that episode. Buffy’s streak however lasted only 7 episodes before she lost Lover’s Walk 89-76 to Spike, and the subsequent episode The Wish 50-49 to Cordelia. She also lost out in the Zeppo 150-43 to Xander (and had to settle for joint bronze with Giles, and her lowest score yet), and finally Doppelgangland 177-50 to Willow. Buffy had only 9 episodes break the 100 line mark and saw her highest scoring episode in Band Candy(156). In comparison season 7 Buffy had 14 Gold episodes, four Silver and one Bronze. Her highest is Help(121) and her lowest is Touched(33).  Her average rating in season 1 was down slightly from season ones 118.4, and season 2’s 95.5 to 95.3. In season 7 she had 76.1

Willow improved in the rankings again despite a drop of 168 lines, to take Second spot by a hefty 175 line margin. This was certainty helped by the record scoring 177 lines Willow achieved in Doppelgangland, which is the highest scoring episode for any character across all seasons, Doppelgangland contains just one scene that does not feature either Willow or Vamp Willow, and quite a few scenes that contain both Willows, and due to the logic I have taken when deciding when character is a character both count as Willow. Doppelgangland also made Willow the Fourth character to break the 100 line mark and the Fifth to pick up a Gold medal. Further to this Gold, Willow picked up Four and a half Silvers and Three and a half Bronze medals. (the Half is for the shared honours in Graduation Day Part 1 which she shared with Xander on 47). Her other Silver episodes were Beauty and the Beasts(48) Gingerbread(62), Earshot(55) and Choices(41), she also picked up a 71 in Lover’s walk. Her lowest episode came in Helpless(15). In comparison Willow had one Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze in season 7, a high of 104(Killer In Me) and a low of 6(Lies My Parents Told Me). Her average in season 3 was down slightly from seasons 1’s 47.8 and season 2’s 45.6 to 45.0. In season 7 it was only 31.2

Xander fell from second to third, and lost by a huge margin. An important note that I should mention is that this drop of 343 lines is Xander’s worst ever fall (though not his worst season). Other than the Gold for the Zeppo, Xander achieved only half a silver medal when he tied Graduation Day pt 1 with Willow at 47, and Three and a half bronze medals (a tied Silver counts as half a bronze). Unsurprisingly Xander’s 150 for the Zeppo was his highest scoring episode in season 3, and his second highest scoring episode for all seasons, his lowest in season 3 came in Helpless(9). In comparison, Xander had 2 silver episodes and 4 bronze, with a high of 54 (Selfless) and low of 2(Lies My Parents Told Me) and did not appear in Conversations with Dead People in season 7. Xanders average in season 3 was down massively on season 2’s 52.6 and season 1’s 55.8 to 37.0. In season 7 it was just 29.2  (these averages are for episodes the character appeared in).

Giles also dropped lines on last season’s 896, but remained stationary in fourth. He picked up two Silver medals and five and a half bronze (The half bronze is for the shared honours in The Zeppo with Buffy). The two Silver episodes were Band Candy(73) and Helpless(52). Band Candy was his highest scoring episode, and his worst came in Lover’s Walk(10). Giles is no longer a regular, but in season 7 he has had only two silver episode Bring On the Night(38) and Lies My Parents Told Me(59) and one bronze episode. His average for season 3 was down on season 1’s 53.5 and season 2’s 40.7 to 33.7. In season 7 it is currently 22.5, in episodes he appeared in.

Faith became the first re-occurring character to beat a regular in the rankings, and aside from Anya out ranking Oz in season 4 (Oz was in 8 episode), she is the only character to do so. Faith had 4 Silver episodes, Faith, Hope And Mr Tricks(65), Bad Girls(67), Consequences(83) and Enemies(77), and one Bronze, Revelations(63). Consequences is also her highest scoring episode in season 3. Her lowest was the 11 she achieved in Homecoming and the Zeppo. Faith returned to BtVS for the final 5 episodes of season 7, having not appeared on the show since season 4, where she won two Gold, one silver and half a bronze medal, and averaged 46.4 lines per episode. Her line average in season 3 was 38.2, which is actually higher than both Xander and Giles. Faith appeared in a total of 13 episodes in season 3.

Angel fell one spot as a result of Faith, but picked up 3 Silver and 1 bronze medal. His Silver episodes being Amends(50), The Prom(51) and Graduation Day Part 2(52). His highest scoring episode was however his bronze episode Enemies(71), which is actually his highest scoring episode of all time on Buffy. Angel lowest episode was Faith, Hope and Mr Tricks(0). Angel appeared in the first two episodes only through dreams and had only 9 lines in the first 5 episodes. He did however appear in every episode in season 3. Angel is now a regular on AtS but did appear in the series finale, where he picked up his final silver episode. His average number of lines in season 3 was 20.9, down from last seasons 25.0 but still higher than season 1’s 19.4. (This is for episodes he appeared in)

Cordelia Slipped another spot to seventh, but did manage to pick up a Gold with The Wish(50), and her first and only Silver medal with Homecoming(70). Homecoming was her highest scoring episode, and her lowest was Bad Girls(2). Cordelia’s average rating was 18.0 overall, down on last seasons 23.5 and season 1’s 23.9. However in the first 11 episodes it was 23.5, in the last 11 it was a mere 12.4. Cordelia was a regular on AtS for the first 4 seasons, and will hopefully appear in season 5. She has not appeared on the Buffy since Graduation Day Pt 2.

Oz improved in the rankings Eighth, but still picked up no medals, and his highest scoring episode was a mere 36 with Beauty and the Beasts. His lowest in which he appeared was Bad Girls(2). Oz did not appear in Consequences and is no longer on the show, although still alive, his last credited appearance is through dream in Restless. Oz had an average of 15.4 lines in season 2, which is up on season 2’s 13.5.

Joyce picked up 1 silver and 1 bronze in season 3, the Silver being for Dead Man’s Party(65), her highest scoring episode was however the bronze Band Candy(68). Joyce appeared in a total of 15 episodes in season 3. Joyce’s character was killed off in I was made to love you, however the character has subsequently appeared through fantasies, dreams and flashbacks. Joyce’s last credited episode in Normal Again, writers comments have revealed that Kristine Sutherland was playing the First in Conversations with Dead People and Bring on the Night. Joyce had an average of 20.1 lines per episode in season 3. In season 2 this was 24.2 and in the first season 17.6.

Wes appeared in 9 season 3 episodes, and picked up one bronze medal in Bad Girls(57), which was also his highest scoring episode. Wes is now a regular on AtS, and only appeared in season 3 of Buffy. The Mayor appeared in 11 episodes, and picked up a bronze medal in Choices(32) this is his highest scoring episode. The Mayor was killed off in Graduation Day pt 2, but reappeared through Dream and video in This years Girl.

Anya appeared in 4 episodes, and picked up a bronze in Doppelgangland(41), which is also her highest scoring episode. Anya became a regular in season 5 and in season 7 she has had 1 Gold, and 2 bronze episodes, and an average of 23.3. In season 3 her average was 26.0. Spike became the Fourth character to pick up a Gold medal in Lover’s walk(89). This was his only episode in season 3. Spike became a regular on the show in season 4, and will be a regular on the fifth season of Angel.

Lilly appeared in her second and last episode in Anne where she won silver and a score of 70. She had previously appeared in Lie To Me, when she was calling herself Chantraelle, subsequent to this episode she changed her name to Anne and made two appearances on AtS, where on both occasions she won Silver medals. Also in Anne was guest star Ken, who won narrowly won bronze with a score of 46. Several other guest stars also won medals in season 3. Debbie took bronze for Beauty and the Beasts(46) (also known as All Men Are Beasts). Gwendolyn Post won silver for Revelations(68), whilst Zackary Kralik took bronze for Helpless(35) and Jack O’Tool won Silver for The Zeppo(65), relegating Buffy to a bronze (and a shared bronze at that) for the first time. None of these medal winning guest stars survived their episode.
