Buffy actually improved on last years 15-4-2, with a 15-4-3, not a large increase granted, though slipped further in the 100 line breaking eps, scoring just 4 (Out Of My Mind(113), No Place Like Home(129), Crush(114) and I Was Made To Love You(112)), which is down one on the previous season. No Place Like Home was also her highest scoring episode with her lowest coming from Forever(60). Buffy suffered her first loss of an episode as early as episode 3, when she lost The Replacement to Xander 159 – 65, followed by Fool For Love to Spike 96 – 70, Triangle to both Anya(85) and Willow(82), Forever to Dawn 87 – 60, Intervention to both The Buffybot(72) and Spike(66), Tough Love to Willow 90 – 76, and The Weight Of The World to both Glory(75) and Willow(69). In Season 7 Buffy had 14 Gold episodes, four Silver and one Bronze. Her highest was Help(121) and her lowest is Touched(33). Her average rating in season 5 was down from season ones 118.4, season 2’s 95.5 and season 3’s 95.3, but up from season 4’s 81.9 at 84.0. In Season 7 she averaged 76.1

Willow suffered her second worst ever drop of 286 lines (Season 6 to 7 is even greater), and was left with only 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals, after picking up her third Gold with Tough Love(90), which was also her highest scoring episode. Whilst Triangle(82), The Body(56) and The Weight Of The World(69) gave her Silvers. Despite this drop Willow remained ranked second. Willow’s lowest rated episode was Fool For Love(7). In comparison In comparison Willow has had one Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze in season 7, a high of 104(Killer In Me) and a low of 6(Lies My Parents Told Me). Her average in season 5 was way down on the first 4 seasons (47.8, 45.6, 45.0, 48.6) to 35.7. In season 7 this figure was only 31.2.

Xander increased his ranking to third, despite a decrease in his number of lines to 722 (his second worst score after season 7). Along the way however he did pick up his highest scoring episode of all seasons with The Replacement(159), in no doubt helped by the appearance of a second Xander. Further to this he picked up 2 silvers and 1 bronze episodes, with his silvers coming from Buffy vs. Dracula(49) and The Gift(36). Into the woods also gave him a 48, whilst Intervention gave him a 49 despite the fact that he achieved no medal for Intervention. Xander’s lowest scoring episode was Fool For Love(8). In comparison, Xander had 2 silver episodes and 4 bronze, with a high of 54 (Selfless) and low of 2(Lies My Parents Told Me) in season 7.  Xander’s average in season 5 was down on the previous 4 seasons (55.8, 52.6, 37.0, 33.8) to 32.8. In season 7 it was 29.2 (these averages are for episodes the character appeared in).

Spike’s ranking increased 2 additional places to fourth, as he picked up his first Gold as a regular (but second of the series) with Fool For Love(96), and achieved his first (and only) 100 line breaking episode with Crush(111) an episode he so nearly won, but lost out to Buffy by 3 lines. Spike received two additional silver medals to Crush (Out Of My Mind(60) and Intervention(66)) as well as one and a half bronze placements (the half is for the Gift, which Spike shared honours with Anya). Spike’s lowest episode came with Listening To Fear(5), although he was absent from The Body entirely. In season 7 Spike had 1 Gold episode, 3 silver episodes and 2 and a half bronzes. His highest scoring episode in season 7 in Beneath You(75) and his lowest Conversations with Dead People(0).  Spike had a line average of 32.6 up on both season 4’s 26.4 and season 2’s average of 23.8. In Season 7 it was lower at 27.7 lines per episode.

Dawn began her debut season in fifth, having scored 586. However this reasonably low full season score is distorted by the differences between the first and last 11 episodes, 393 lines of Dawn’s 586 came from the back 11. Dawn became the Eleventh Character to pick up a Gold with her 87 in Forever, as well as 3 and a half Silvers and 2 and a half bronzes (shared silver with Greggor in Spiral). Dawn’s Silver episodes were The Real Me(44), No Place Like Home(49), Blood Ties(86) and Spiral(37). Dawn’s lowest scoring episode was Buffy vs. Dracula(1) when she was a guest star, and her lowest as a regular was The Replacement and Fool For Love(6), though she scored only 10 or less on seven occasions. In Season seven Dawn had one Gold (Potential(82)) and two Silver episodes (Lessons(68), Him(85)). With Him being her highest scoring episode and storyteller/Lies My Parents Told Me being her lowest (3). In season 5 Dawn averaged 26.6 lines per episode, in season 7 she has averaged 24.1

Giles Slipped even further, down to sixth and dropped another 150 lines. This means Giles dropped exactly one spot in the rankings for every season he was a regular (though he dropped two spots between s1 and 2, and was stationary in s3), which is a surprising finding, that may in part be down to less exposition scenes, or to Tony Heads desire to spend more time in England. Along the way however he did pick up one and half silvers and one and a half bronze episodes (The half is for the shared honours in Checkpoint with Quintein Travers for 49), his full Silver episode being Shadow, also 49, which was his top score of the season. Giles’ worst score came with Crush(6). Giles is no longer a regular, but in season 7 he had two silver episode Bring On the Night(38) and Lies My Parents Told Me(59) and one bronze. His average for season 5 was way down from the first four seasons (53.5, 40.7, 33.7, 32.1) at 25.3. In season 7 it was 22.5, in episodes he appeared in.

Anya became a regular in season 5, and for the first 10 episodes of the season it was hard to see why as she picked up only 158 lines, and failed to make significant impact in any of the episodes, aside from the Replacement to which she only narrowly missed out to Riley on a bronze. Anya was actually doing worse as a regular, than she had been as a guest star. However things changed with Triangle(85) as she won her first Gold, and had her highest scoring episode by 28 lines. Anya was the tenth character to pick up a gold. Subsequent to this however Anya only won half a bronze in the Gift (which she tied with Spike). Her lowest scoring episode was Crush(3) In season 7 she had 1 Gold, and 2 bronze episodes, and an average of 23.3 for episodes she appeared in (though Anya missed 3 out of 22 episodes entirely). In season 5 her average was up on season 4’s 17.9, but still down on season 3’s 26.0, at 19.59. Anya is the only regular who did better in season 7 than season 5, but only by a margin of 11 lines.

Riley appeared in only 10 episodes during season 5, but still picked up an impressive 1 silver and 5 bronzes, with his departing episode Into The Woods(65), being the silver episode and highest scoring episode. His lowest came from No Place Like Home(13) Riley has now departed from BtVS, his last episode was As You Were. His line average was 37.2, the same as in season 4, and a higher average than any other regular (excluding Buffy) got in season 5.

Tara picked up her first medal, when she achieved a silver medal for Family(70), and finished in ninth, two places up on last season. Tara is no longer a character on BtVS, the character was killed off in the season six episode Seeing Red, in order that the writers could advance an arc about crayons or something.

Glory became the highest scoring non-regular Big Bad (that is a big bad not played by a regular), and the first Big Bad to pick up a Gold, when she achieved a 75 for The Weight of the World, she also achieved two bronzes prior to this. Glory has not appeared subsequent to her death at the end of season 5.

Joyce picked up a silver medal for the episode Listening to Fear(52) and appeared in 16 episodes in total (one more than in season 3), she was however killed off in I was made to love you, though did appear after her death (twice in season 5 and once in season 6), The First also used Joyce’s image in the season 7 episodes Conversations with dead people and Bring on the Night.

The Buffy Bot became the first character to achieve a gold medal on her debut (excluding Buffy), when she scored a 72 in Intervention, to narrowly beat both Spike(66) and Buffy(65). No doubt her success was helped by the fact that Sarah Michelle Geller played the character (as was the case when Faith won a gold in Who Are You). The Buffy Bots creator Warren picked up a bronze for I was made to Love You (56), and his other creation April picked up the Silver and a score of 62 for that episode, though this was her only game in the series. Likewise the Knights of Byzantium general Greggor only appeared in Spiral(37) but shared the silver medal with Dawn. Finally Quentin Travers returned after a 2 season absence to tie Silver place with Giles in Checkpoint. (49), and Harmony improved on season 4’s 79, scoring 104, and picked up a Bronze for the Real Me(41)
