This is a water+air propelled rocket. Got the idea from Peter Hildner, in one of the Indian Guide tribes I've been in. The rocket is a two liter soda bottle. There's a straw duct-taped to it, and it's sitting on a cheapo Estes rocket launcher. I can't remember exactly how the air hose is attached to the rocket, but I know I ended up using a cork cut in half (to make it shorter), with a hole drilled through the middle to get the air in. I think I had the air hose going straight into the cork. On the other end of the orange air hose ($10 or so from Home Depot), is a bike pump, which conveniently had a screw end for the hose that fit the orange air hose. The hose is quite long, because I was afraid of the rocket tipping over, towards me, then going off. Never did.
The movie starts with me pumping the bike pump. You just pump till it takes off. You can hear the bottle hitting the ground. From memory it reaches nearly to the top of the pines in our front yard, so figure 60 feet up. The movie ends with a slow-mo of the take off.
I took the movie with whatever digicam I had at the time. I think a Canon S400. I should have used the minidv cam instead ...
