This is a semi-educational film I made for my American Government class. We were suppose to make a play about Federalism, but we did a film instead.

I found these pictures on the web and had to share them with everyone. American master photographer Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) is probably best known for Changing New York, her 1935-1938 Federal Art Project documentation of the city's rapidly changing built environment. In the early 1990's another photographer, Douglas Levere followed in her footsteps and recreated, almost exactly the same photographs she had taken. Following is my interpretation of those changes

Wed, Sep. 21, 2005 -- LONG BEACH, Calif. - A Jet Blue airliner unsuccessfully attempted to make an emergency landing Wednesday after its front wheels were turned sideways and unable to retract into the plane after takeoff from a nearby airport. The plane carrying 139 passengers left Burbank Airport at 3:17 p.m. for New York's JFK airport, said Jet Blue spokesman Bryan Baldwin. Jet Blue flight 292 was circling the Long Beach Airport, about 30 miles south of Burbank, as the pilot and aviation officials tried to determine what the best solution was. The Airbus A320 was dumping fuel over the Pacific, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Donn Walker. TV images showed the nose wheel turned perpendicular. Its back landing gear was also down but appeared to be in the correct position. "After leaving Burbank, pilots reported a landing gear indication light on, meaning there may be a problem or issue with the landing gear," Baldwin said. The crew then decided to return to an airport to attempt to land, he said. The pilots were "able to determine the problem with assistance from air traffic control."

TIJUANA, Mexico - David Smith Sr., who already holds a world record for the longest distance traveled by a human fired from a cannon, added to his list of cannonball coups Saturday by shooting across the U.S-Mexico border. The feat was the brainchild of Venezuelan artist Javier Tellez and is part of a series of public art projects in the two border cities. Smith climbed into the barrel of the cannon Saturday afternoon and flashed his U.S. passport as about 600 people applauded. He took flight from a popular beach in Tijuana, Mexico and soared about 150 feet over a line of black metal poles about 20 feet high and spaced six inches apart. He landed uninjured in a net in Border Field State Park in San Diego with U.S. Border Patrol agents and an ambulance waiting nearby. David Smith Jr., also an accomplished human cannonball, said his father's flight was the first across a border by way of cannon. Tellez organized the cannonball launch with psychiatric patients at the Baja California Mental Health Center in Mexicali, Mexico, as a therapeutic project. The event is part of an art series that started Saturday and will run through the fall, sponsored by inSite05, a binational arts partnership in the San Diego-Tijuana region. Tellez called the project "living sculpture" and said it was about "dissolving borders" between the United States and Mexico and between mental health patients and the rest of the world. "David Smith is a metaphor for flying over human borders, flying over the law, flying over everything that is established," he said. Tellez, 36, and Smith Sr. worked closely on the backdrop, music, costumes and advertising for the project, "One Flew Over the Void." Tellez plans a documentary film about it. Although it is against the law for anyone, including U.S. citizens, to enter the country outside an official port of entry, Smith Sr. wasn't crossing illegally. U.S. Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar made an exception for him, said Border Patrol spokesman Kurstan Rosberg. Smith Jr., 28, said the family insisted on U.S. government approval. "I had to have some kind of official OK high enough up to make sure he doesn't land in the U.S. and go to a federal penitentiary," he said. Smith Sr., of Half Way, Mo., is listed in Guinness World Records for record distance for a human fired from a cannon. He flew 185 feet, 10 inches on May 29, 1998 in West Mifflin, Penn. The Smith family has five cannonballs: father, son, two daughters and a cousin. Smith Sr. built seven cannons designed to fire humans, and his family operates five of them, traveling around the world to perform at events including parades and concerts, his son said. "If one of the girls has a baby, they can't be a cannonball during that time," said Smith Jr.

A project that had meaning. A Project with different ideas. A product of REM sleep. I said “these multi-editor projects all seem to fit the same mode of musical motif and don’t have a lot of meat (soul) to them” there overly flashy and tell us nothing really about the music presented in the project. I chose R.E.M because of their wide range of song topics, some political, some personal, some inspirational and found others whose ideas where very similar. While the mission statement changed (page one of the thread was updated 207 times in total) the project evolved. My original audio track was redefined by Crazy T (who retired last month) and the concepts became more concrete. People came and left, then by Christmas the audio was done and people started working on their tracks. The videos betas started to pour in, my theory became something tangible. There where many screw-ups the FTP acting funny during the upload of orange crush and my track needed to be fixed by Koop do to the fact it was cursed (a whole story unto it’s self) I started pimping the project this month on RDS radio doing horribly planned 10 – 15 sec spots and then Dokoo l fixed my bit torrent system. The SR-71 remained the world's fastest and highest-flying operational aircraft throughout its career. From an altitude of 80,000 ft (24 km) it could survey 100,000 miles²/h (72 km²/s) of the Earth's surface. On July 28, 1976, an SR-71 set two world records for its class: an absolute speed record of 2,193.167 mph (3,529.56 km/h) and an absolute altitude record of 85,068.997 feet (25,929 m). The airframe was made of titanium obtained from the USSR during the height of the Cold war. Lockheed used all possible guises to prevent the Soviet government from knowing what the titanium was to be used for. In order to keep the costs under control, they used a more easily worked alloy of titanium which softened at a lower temperature. Finished aircraft were painted a dark blue (almost black) to increase the emission of internal heat ( the fuel was used as a heat sink for avionics cooling ) and to act as camouflage against the sky. The shape of the vehicle is designed so that the plane had a very small 'radar cross-section' — the SR-71 was an early stealth design. However, as a point of fact, the SR-71 is one of the largest RADAR targets on the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) long range RADARs. The RADARs are able to track the plane at several hundred miles. It is assumed that the RADARs are detecting the exhaust air. A critical design feature to allow achieving mach 3.0+ cruising speeds, yet provide subsonic air flow into the turbojet engines were the Air Inlets. At the front of each inlet was a sharp, pointed moveable cone called a spike that was locked in the full forward position on the ground or when in subsonic flight. During acceleration to high speed cruise, the spike would unlock at mach 1.6 and then begin a mechanical ( internal jack screw powered ) travel to the rear up to a maximum of 26 inches. The original Air Inlet Computer was an analog design and based on pitot-static, pitch, roll, yaw, angle-of-attack, etc. inputs would determine how much movement aft ( or fore ) was required. By doing so, the spike tip would withdraw the shockwave riding on it into the inlet body where reflections of the shockwave from the inlet cowl to the spike and back to the cowl, etc. would cause a loss of energy and slow it down until a mach 1.0 shockwave was formed; the backside of which is subsonic air for ingestion into the engine compressor. This capture of the shockwave within the inlet was called "Starting the Inlet". Tremendous pressures would be built up inside the inlet and in front of the compressor face. Bleed holes and bypass doors were designed into the inlet and engine nacelles to handle some of this pressure and allow the Inlet to remain "Started". So significant was this inlet pressure build-up ( pushing against the inlet structure ) that at mach 3.2 cruise, it was estimated that 58% of the available thrust was being provided by the inlet, 17% by the compressor and the remaining 25% by the afterburner. Ben Rich, the Lockheed Skunkworks designer of the Inlets often referred to the engine compressors as "pumps to keep the inlets alive" and sized the inlets for mach 3.2 cruise ( where the aircraft was at its most efficient design point ). In the early years of the Blackbird programs, the analog Air Inlet computers would not always keep up with rapidly changing flight environmental inputs. If internal pressures became too great ( and the spike incorrectly positioned ) the shockwave would suddenly blow out the front of the inlet, called an "Inlet Unstart". Immediately, the air flow through the engine compressor would cease, thrust dropped and exhaust gas temperatures would begin to rise. Due to the tremendous thrust of the remaining engine pushing the aircraft asymmetrically along with the sudden deceleration caused by losing 50% of available power, an unstart would cause the aircraft to violently yaw to one side. SAS, autopilot and manual control inputs would fight the yawing, but often the off angle extreme would reduce airflow in the opposite engine and cause it to begin "sympathetic stalls". The result would be rapid counter yawing, often loud "banging" noises and a rough ride. Pilots and RSOs occasionally experienced their Pressure Suit Helmets banging on their cockpit canopies until the initial unstart motions subsided. One of the standard counters to an inlet Unstart was for the pilot to reach out and unstart both inlets; this drove both the spikes out, stopped the yawing conditions and allowed the pilot to restart each inlet. Once restarted, with normal engine combustion, the crew would return to its acceleration and climb to planned cruise altitude.
