| A. | The common starting time for the Easter Vigil in years when the Vigil
falls in Standard Time will be 7:30 p.m., and when the Vigil falls in
Daylight Saving Time, the common starting time will be 8:30 p.m.
It must be kept in mind that the Easter Vigil is a night vigil and has
been so from the very outset. The language of the service of light evokes
images of light in the darkness and makes constant reference to "this holy
night." If we are to be honest about our use of the symbols and true to
our tradition, then the Vigil cannot start before it is dark. That is why
the first revisions of the Triduum in our day, in 1955, moved the vigil
back to nightime. |
