68. The Up In Smoke tour

No one thought it would last, let alone even get off the ground. Who'd have thought the Up In Smoke tour would become the fastest-selling and most successful hip hop tour ever! Where previous rap tours had fallen down on low production values and lack of showbiz panache, the Up In Smoke tour gave fans the opportunity to see gangsta rap meeting Las Vegas pantomime. The show was total rap theatre, a stage set made up of a huge talking skull, glowing chronic leaves, a liquor store, lo-riders and even a couple of live skits and movies. Rap's fantasy package tour journeyed across America for 40 days and 40 nights, starting on June 15 2000 in Chula Vista, California, where ex-NWA members Dr Dre, Ice Cube and MC Ren were reunited, with Snoop Dogg standing in for the late Eazy E, plus Eminem and D-12, Xzibit, Warren G, Jayo Felony, Kurupt, Mack 10, Nate Dogg, The Eastsidaz and TQ all took to the stage.

If this wasn't enough, Dr Dre tried to sue the city of Detroit, after allegations of smut peddling in the form of sexually explicit videos. The Up In Smoke tour will take a lot of beating.
