Online Error FAQs and Solutions
  1. The message "Fail to create an account (750)" appears. What should I do?

When you see this message, check the clock on the PlayStation®2 by starting up your PlayStation®2 without a game inside, and select Syste Configuration. Go down to the clock setting and make sure it is set to the correct date and time for your time zone.
  2. Error Message (518) appears when I connect to network. What should I do?

Error message (518) means that your PlayStation®2 failed UDP port check. A message "Fail to UDP port check" is displayed when a router or modem (a device supported by a provider) currently being used, has a router function.

This error seems to occur because a connection is partly limited. You might be able to fix this problem by manually opening the ports on the router device.

If you have any questions regarding how to set up port opening on the router device, please refer to your router manual or contact your router's manufacturer.

When you contact to the manufacturer, make sure to tell them that you need to open the following:

    UDP port: 5730-5739
(You need one of these ports)

When multiple router devices exist on the cable the PlayStation®2 connects to (i.e. connecting a router to a modem with a router function), it might be difficult to fix this issue by setting up port opening. We highly recommend using one router device on the cable between your ISP and PlayStation®2.
  3. Error Message (519) appears when I connect to network. What should I do?

Error message (519) means that you have one or more ports blocked on your internet connection. They can either be blocked by your Internet Service Provider, or if you are using a router or modem (a device supported by a provider) that has a router function.

The easiest way to correct this error is to assign your PlayStation®2 a static IP address in its network configuration file, then taking the same IP address that you just assigned to your PlayStation®2 and enable the IP address on your router as a DMZ host. This will place the PlayStation®2 outside of any possible firewall/blocked ports and enable you to create games.

Another way you can get around this issue is to manually open ports on your router. The following ports need to be opened:

    UDP Port: 5730-5739
    TCP Port: 80, 443, 5730-5733

If you are unsure of how to open ports or enable an IP address as a DMZ host, we suggest you contact your router or modem's manufacturer. You may also need to contact your Internet Service Provider if you have done this and are still experiencing problems as they might have the ports blocked. If you are unsure of how to assign your PlayStation®2 a static IP address, we suggest you contact SONY at 1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
  4. A message "Fail to join the host" appears. Why?

A message "Fail to join the host" may appear when a lobby or game that you want to join has already reached the maximum number of players.
  5. A message "Competing IP address" appears. What should I do?

A message "IP address conflict" is displayed when multiple network devices such as a computer and PlayStation®2 simultaneously connect to the same IP address via router. This error occurs when PlayStation®2 currently being used and other network devices start to connect to the same IP address.

To solve this issue, you need to assign a specific IP address to the PlayStation®2 and computer manually.
  6. I am not able to connect to a modem after I alternately connect a computer and PlayStation®2 to a modem. What should I do?

The numbers (MAC address) to specify each network device (computer or PlayStation®2) remain in the modem or provider as a connection record. When you connect PlayStation®2 to a modem right after using a computer, sometimes you cannot connect to the modem because the number of network devices (MAC address) is different from the one remaining in the record.

Try to power cycle your modem or router. Unplug the power cable and turn off the modem for 30 minutes to initialize the record. In the meantime, connect PlayStation®2 and the modem with one LAN cable. Turn on the modem first and one or two minutes later, turn on PlayStation®2 to see if PlayStation®2 is properly connected to the modem. (Some cable/DSL modems have a reset button to initialize the record. Please refer to the instruction manual of your cable or DSL modem.)

Please refer to the information materials provided by your ISP regarding "Use PPPoE" on network setting screen. When ID authentication is required for network connection, enter your ID and password. For "IP address/DNS automatic setting," select "Automatic setting" and attempt to connect to network.

When you cannot connect to the modem with the methods above, contact your provider to see if MAC address allows only certain network devices to connect to the network.
  7. What are the port number requirements for Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence?

The followings port numbers are necessary for Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence.

    TCP port: 80,443, 5730-5733
    UDP port: 5730~5739
(The port number is not fixed for automatic setting.)
  8. I'm getting a different error code than ones that are listed above, any suggestions on how to fix the error?

The easiest way to correct the error is to assign your PlayStation®2 a static IP address in its network configuration file, then taking the same IP address that you just assigned to your PlayStation®2 and enable the IP address on your router as a DMZ host. This will place the PlayStation®2 outside of any possible firewall/blocked ports and enable you to create games.

Another way you can get around this issue is to manually open up ports on your router. The following ports need to be opened.

    UDP Port: 5730-5739
    TCP Port: 80, 443, 5730-5733

If you are unsure of how to open ports or enable an IP address as a DMZ host, we suggest you contact your router or modem's manufacturer. You may also need to contact your Internet Service Provider if you have done this and are still experiencing problems as they might have the ports listed above blocked. If you are unsure of how to assign your PlayStation®2 a static IP address, we suggest you contact SONY at 1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
