For Muslim youth growing up in the western school system, maintaining an Islamic identity is not always the easiest thing to do. Dealing with trying to figure out who you are individually in one of the main things that youth have to go through as they grow physically and mature mentally.
However, the obstacles of fitting in with other youth within the mainstream western culture can sometimes lead to very tough challenges. Peer pressure, being accepted and respected and simply enjoying growth and maturity can be very difficult when you are the minority in the school that you attend.
The intention of this dialogue is to offer youth a forum to confront some of the issues that concern them growing up in the west and trying to maintain their Islamic identity and fit in with the culture at the same time. We welcome any discussion from youth of all ages. We simply ask that the questions or comments be pertaining to the respective discussion topic.
