Hangāme sobuh ey saname farroxpey
Barsāz tarānevo piš āvar mey

Kafkand be xāk sadhezārān Jamo Key
In āmadan Tirmaho raftane Dey

And look -- a thousand blossoms with the day
Woke -- and a thousand scatter'd into clay,

And this first summer month that brings the rose
Shall take Jamshid and Kaikobád away.

Idole, bienvenue aux heures du matin,
Fais-moi de la musique et donne-moi du vin!

Cent mille Djem et Key disparurent sous terre,
Dès que revint l'été, dès que l'hiver prit fin.

Ey rafte be cowgāne qazā hamcon gu
Cap mey xoro rāst mirovo hic magu

Kānkas ke torā afkand andar tako pu
U dānado u dānado u dānado u

The ball no question makes of ayes and noes,
But right or left as strikes the player goes;

And he that toss'd thee down into the field,
He knows about it all -- he knows -- he knows!

Comme une boule, au gré de la fatalité,
Roule à droite et tais-toi, quoique à gauche jeté,

Pauvre homme, car celui qui t'amène en ce monde,
Lui seul, lui seul, lui seul connait la verité!

Dar kārgahe kuzegari raftam duš
Didam dohezār kuze guyāvo xamuš

Nāgāh yeki kuze barāvard xoruš
Ku kuzegaro kuzexaro kuzeforuš

And, strange to tell, among that earthen lot
Some could articulate, while others not:

And suddenly one more impatient cried --
"Who is the potter, pray, and who the pot?"

J'ai vu chez un potier, dans de vastes éspaces,
Deux mille pots, les uns muets, d'autres loquaces

A son voisin un pot disait "Ou sont allés
Le potier, l'acheteur et le vendeur rapaces?"
