The statement of purpose
for this site:
1. To provide a first course in
Persian
language education for all interested users around the world.
2. An alternate web-based resource
for Persian language education.
3. To demonstrate the advantage
of teaching Persian, using the Latin-based UniPers
alphabet, over the current Perso-Arabic.

What
this is about:
This site is based on the book entitled, "Persian for English Speaking
Peoples", written by Professor Manoochehr Sotoodeh, the former
lecturer of the faculty of letters at the University of Tehran. The
Persian text was later transcribed in the UniPers script for ease of
use. Anyone interested in learning the beautiful Persian language can
take advantage of these lessons without any need to first learn the
cumbersome Perso-Arabic writing system. The lessons and exercises are
designed to provide the student with a complete and detailed education
in the basics of the language. We hope you enjoy learning, and please
contact us if
there are any questions and/or suggestions.
|
Who this is
for:
These lessons were created as a basic introduction to the Persian language
for all English-speaking users. They are to serve as a key to the wealth
of this language and its vast literature. By employing a simple Latin-based
alphabet, we hope that Persian will become accessible to all those interested
in the Iranian and other Persianate cultures.

How to read
the Persian text:
The table below lists the letters of the (UniPers) alphabet used
to inscribe the Persian text in these pages. It also indicates
their various sounds by bringing examples of similar sounds in
English. The Persian text is written in a phonetic script based
on this alphabet. Therefore, by learning the sounds of each letter,
you will be able to determine the pronunciation of the words.
You can also click on each of the
images, in the "sound" column, to hear the sound of its corresponding
Persian word.
