With the planned trip of the King and Queen of Spain to Cuba in early 1999, the
Spaniards, driven by their greed, are adding insult to the injury of their Cuban
descendants. They are engaged in what Cubans have been calling “the reconquest”
- sanctioned by Castro’s desperate need to stay afloat. Like vultures, our
heartless relatives are descending on the Cuban soil. Just as despicable as the XV
century conquistadors, the modern Spanish wheeling-and-dealing “businessmen” are
taking possession of as much as they can in partnership with Castro’s enterprises,
administered by the armed forces and the secret police – the ones protecting Castro
by repressing the people.
The election of President Jose Maria Aznar in Spain unseats Castro’s friend, the
socialist Felipe Gonzalez and his shameful policy of helping his old buddy. The
early actions taken by President Aznar, brought renewed hope that Spain would rectify its
prior conduct. But obviously the pressures of the unscrupulous Spanish businessmen -
mesmerized by the promise of easy profits and the castles in the air that Castro is
promising - won the battle against moral principles. And Aznar falls into shame and
with him, unfortunately, the King and Queen of Spain, if in fact they do visit Castro in
Cuba.
How can the King and Queen of Spain pay a visit, shake the hand and sit at the same
dinner table with the most criminal tyrant in Cuba’s history and in the Americas?
It is shameful for them to visit a ruler who betrayed his people’s desire for
freedom and democracy installing instead an illegitimate and brutal totalitarian regime,
which has ravaged Cuba for 40 years. It is shameful that due to unscrupulous
business decisions they depart from their dignified conduct as the monarchs of Spain and
succumb into this unforgivable hypocritical charade.
How can Spain’s businessmen overlook Castro’s crimes and be so eager to make
business arrangements with that regime’s companies?
In the book-in-progress The Human Costs of Social Revolutions: The Black Book on
Cuba by Dr. Armando Lago that will be published in 1999, he is making an attempt to list
Castro’s deaths since 1959. With Castro in power, obtaining information is very
difficult, but so far the deaths of 97,000 persons have been named, each confirmed by at
least two sources. Some 30,000 executed by firing squad, 2,000 extra-judicial
assassinations, 5,000 deaths in prison due to beating by guards and denial of medical care
and 60,000 deaths while trying to escape Cuba by sea.
The victims counted so far by Dr. Lago include 21 US citizens. Of them, only the
body of Captain Thomas Willard Ray has been returned to his family in the US. The
rest of the bodies remain unburied and on display at the museums of the revolution and
morgues throughout Cuba. Dr. Lago also found among the deaths 1 British, 1 Dane, 1
Haitian and 6 Spaniards. Ofelia Garcia Menocal, the International Relations
Secretary of the World Federation of Former Cuban Political Prisoners, reported that, some
months ago, organizations of Cuban exiles in Spain presented in Madrid to judge
overGarzon, a list of Spaniards killed in Cuba by Castro, with supporting documentation
provided by their descendents.
Dr. Lago’s book does not account for the thousands killed in Central and South
America by Castro-sponsored guerrillas, nor the thousands killed by Castro’s troops
in Africa, nor the deaths due to the drug-trafficking Castro still fosters into the US or
those killed in Spain by the separatist organization E.T.A. using terrorist trained by
Castro.
It is insensitive of the Spaniards that all these crimes are not enough grounds for
requiring the implementation of a policy toward Castro based on moral principles instead
of greed. Spanish businessmen are helping Castro to stay afloat in detriment of the
Cuban people. It is in the Spaniards best monetary interests to maintain the status
quo to protect their investments, which represents the best insurance policy for
Castro. The monetary profits from the exploitation of the Cuban people are making
Spain a collaborator of Castro and an enemy of the people longing for freedom.
That the unscrupulous Canadians, Mexicans and others are collaborating to keep Castro’s
tyranny strong in order to make money, although reprehensible and insulting, is not as
deeply felt by the Cubans. After all, we do not have the direct bloodline with them.
For many of us, our ancestors came from Spain. Therefore, what Spain is
engaged in now is rightfully generating hatred and resentment and the Cuban people are
taking note. During the August 5,1994 riots in Havana, most, if not all of the
foreign businesses destroyed by the crowd were those owned by Spaniards.
Cuban people are not and must not forgive and forget all these horrible years of
tyranny, so it won’t happen again. And the collaborators will be treated just
the Jews treated the Nazi collaborators.
Spain’s behavior disqualifies her as the motherland of Cubans, not even a distant
relative and much less a friend. If Spain corrects its behavior on time, if Spain
really wants to help the Cuban people live with freedom and dignity, help to get rid of
Castro by disinvesting and going home. If not, the Spaniards should be ready to run
like they do annually from the bulls in Pamplona.

Con el plan de viaje a Cuba de los reyes de España a principios de 1999, los
españoles, arrastrados por la codicia, están insultando a sus descendientes cubanos. Los
españoles están envueltos en lo que los cubanos han llamado “la reconquista”
– con la bendición de Castro en su desesperado intento por mantenerse en el poder.
Como buitres, nuestros progenitores despiadados están descendiendo sobre el suelo
cubano. Tan despreciables como los conquistadores del siglo XV, los actuales “hombres
de negocios” españoles están rapiñando todo lo más que pueden en concubernio con
las empresas castristas, administradas por las fuerzas armadas y la policía secreta
–encargadas de proteger a Castro y oprimir al pueblo.
La elección del presidente José María Aznar en España destituyó al amigo de
Castro, el socialista Felipe Gonzalez con su desfachatada política de ayuda a su
compinche. Las primeras acciones tomadas por el presidente Aznar trajeron la
esperanza de que España rectificara su conducta anterior. Pero obviamente las
presiones de los inescrupulosos negociantes españoles – deslumbrados ante las
promesas de ganancias
fáciles y castillos en el aire que Castro les pinta – ganaron la batalla contra los
principios morales. Y Aznar sucumbió en la desvergüenza, y con él,
desafortunadamente, los reyes de España, si en efecto visitan a Castro en Cuba.
¿Cómo es posible que los reyes de España visiten a Castro, estrechen su mano y se
sienten a comer en la mesa del más criminal tirano en la historia de Cuba y de América?
Es una vergüenza que visiten a un gobernante que traicionó los deseos de libertad
y democracia de su pueblo e impusiera un ilegítimo y brutal régimen totalitario que ha
arruinado a Cuba por 40 años. Es una desvergüenza que debido a inescrupulosas
decisiones de negocios los reyes abandonen su digna e intachable conducta como monarcas de
España y sucumban en ésta imperdonable e hipócrita charranada.
¿Cómo es posible que los hombres de negocios de España vuelvan sus espaldas ante los
crímenes de Castro y estén tan ávidos por hacer negocios con las companías del
régimen?
En el libro en progreso El Costo Humano de las Revoluciones Sociales: El Libro
Negro Sobre Cuba del Dr. Armando Lago que será publicado en 1999, él está tratando de
listar las muertes del castrismo desde 1959. Con Castro en el poder, es muy dificil
obtener información, pero hasta la fecha la suma de 97,000 muertes han sido nombradas,
cada una de las cuales está confirmada por más de dos fuentes. Sobre 30,000
ejecutados, 2,000 asesinatos extrajudiciales, 5,000 muertes en prisión debido a las
golpizas de los carceleros y negación de asistencia médica, y 60,000 muertes tratando de
escapar de Cuba por mar.
Las víctimas contadas hasta la fecha por el Dr. Lago incluyen a 21 ciudadanos de los
EE.UU. De estos, solo el cadáver del capitán Thomas Willard Ray ha sido devuelto a
sus familiares en los EE.UU.. El resto de los cadáveres sin enterrar se encuentran
en exhibición en los museos de la revolución y en los mortuorios de Cuba. El
Dr. Lago también ha encontrado entre los muertos a 1 británico, 1 danés, 1 haitiano y a
6 españoles. Ofelia García Menocal, la Secretaria de Relaciones Internacionales de
la Federación Mundial de ex-Presos Políticos Cubanos, reportó que hace unos meses, las
organizaciones de exilados cubanos en España presentaron ante el juez Garzón en Madrid
una lista de los españoles asesinados en Cuba por el régimen de Castro con
documentación facilitada por sus descendientes.
El libro del Dr. Lago no expone los miles de muertos en Centro y Sur América por las
guerrillas patrocinadas por Castro, ni los miles de muertos por las tropas castristas en
Africa, ni las muertes por el narcotráfico hacia los EE.UU. que aún Castro continúa
facilitando, ni los muertos en España por la E.T.A., cuyos terroristas han sido
entrenados por Castro.
Es insensible de los españoles que todos éstos crímenes no sean razones suficientes
para requerir la implementación de una política hacia Castro basada en principios
morales en vez de codicia. Los negociantes españoles están ayudando a Castro a
mantenerse en el poder en detrimento al pueblo de Cuba. Es en el mejor interés
monetario español el proteger sus inversiones manteniendo el status quo, lo cual
representa la mejor póliza de seguro para Castro. Los intereses creados por las
ganancias de la explotación del pueblo cubano están convirtiendo a España en
colaborador de Castro y enemigo de los que anhelan libertad.
Que los inescrupulosos canadienses, mejicanos y otros estén colaborando a mantener la
tiranía castrista para hacer dinero, por censurable e insultante que sea, no es tan
profundamente resentido por los cubanos, ya que no.tenemos vínculos familiares con ellos.
Pero para muchos de nosotros, nuestros progenitores vinieron de España. Por
lo tanto, que España esté tan comprometida con Castro, con toda razón está generando
odio y resentimiento, y los cubanos están tomando nota. Durante los disturbios en
La Habana del 5 de agosto de 1994, la mayoría, si no todos los establecimientos
extranjeros que fueron destruidos por la muchedumbre fueron aquellos de dueños
españoles.
Los cubanos no van ni deben perdonar ni olvidar todos éstos horribles años de
tiranía, para que no vuelva a pasar otra vez. Y los colaboradores serán tratados
como los judíos trataron a los que colaboraron con los nazis.
La conducta de España la descalifica como la madre patria de los cubanos, ni siquiera
como un familiar lejano y mucho menos una amiga. Si España rectifica su conducta a
tiempo, y si realmente quiere ayudar al pueblo cubano a vivir con libertad y dignidad, que
ayude a terminar con el castrismo retirando sus inversiones y regresando a sus casas.
Si no, los españoles deberán estar listos a huir como huyen anualmente de los
toros en Pamplona.
