LZS—the industry standard—available
from Hifn
The 9620 implements the industry standard Hifn LZS data
compression algorithm. This algorithm has been standardized
by many organizations including: IETF (RFC 3173, RFC-1974,
RFC-1962, RFC-1967) Frame Relay Forum (FRF.9) ANSI (X3.241),
and QIC (122).
In
addition, LZS has become the de facto standard in tape
drives. Companies rely on LZS to ensure the most efficient,
highest performing compression technologies for their
devices.
CPU
intervention is not required between operations, eliminating
any latency issues. Record can be queued, reducing CPU
intervention. The 9620 contains input and output FIFOs,
separate compression and decompression engines, dedicated
internal compression memory, and command, status, and
result registers. The 9620 has a fault detection feature
that verifies the results of the compression engine in
real time.
