Douglas,

It's probably a bad idea to post in your topic, but i feel that I have to. Over the years I've watched you here, and tried talking to and with you a few times. I've been frustrated by some things you've said, and angered by others, and I can see why a lot of people have been very offended by some of your comments, whether or not you understand why.

At the same time, I've always respected the fact that you seem to sincerly care about writing, and sf, and you've contributed to quite a few sf discussions here. I've tried to weigh the good against the bad.

But tonight I think you stepped over any decent boundaries, and you have lost my respect, probably forever. Your coments to Kent were foul and undeserved. You have, in effect, cursed at your host because you don't like his house rules. I'm sorry, but if you don't like it, i finally count myself among those who hope you will leave and find somewhere that suits you better.

I included the full context in my e-mail to them. Perhaps they will see something in your post which excuses threats of violence. I do not.

I don't expect to post in your topic, or to engage you in conversation in any way again. But I would be happy to forward any further threats you wish to make.

"But if you continue to refer to me and my friend in this way It will have consequences beyond any violence or anger you might attribute to me or imply in my words."

Given your different style or writing, I'm not going to respond to this right away. It's possible you meant something entirely different from the words you actually wrote. If so, I honestly don't care. I'm not interested in your explanations. But you should know that I read those words as a threat.

If you continue to threaten me or anyone on this board, I plan to send an e-mail to abuse@verizon.net with a copy of those threats. (In case you're not aware, they own the account you're using for your Internet access). What they do with that information will be up to them, but I've seen other accounts shut down for less.

Doug, you don't play well with others. It is as simple as that. You twist words and twist intentions and then protest that you are being persecuted. Simply put. YOU ARE WRONG. Doug, this is what people have against your posts.

Also, you post inappropriately, talking about plots in a thread on techinical troubles, complaining that everyone is against you ... everywhere.

Your comments are better suited for the blog-o-sphere. You would be happier with a blog. You have a personal emailing relationship with others, please keep it personal. No one here is interested in your discourse.

Right now, you appear to be about as well-mannered as Terrel Owens. (Sorry if I have the named spelled wrong. Here in Philly, he is merely known as T.O.) Talk about screaming rape.

If you don't like our attitude. Leave. Please. Everyone, including yourself, would be happier.

This will be my last post addressing you or your concerns. I doubt you will be heeding my advice. I doubt you will understand what I am saying. From now on, I shall leave my comments via feedback hits.

Sorry you couldn't figure out how to get along. Stop blaming racism, it's not your race, it's you.

Very conviuncing argument Sue02. Yet, again, I respectfully disagree with several of your premises and all of your conclusion. If you want to invoke the Lori matter, which I have apologized for, without prejudice to myself, I would entertain that n any detail you command. It seems to me a sore subject, and more of the same when it comes to bellyaching. Both Lori and Kelley must be responsible for attempting to ambush my posts without success. That they failed and subsequently got burned by the very....

Doug, if you want to rant, do it here. This is your author topic and you can rant away. I don't guarantee that anyone will come and listen, though.

As for that annoying poster. These things happen. Get over it. This isn't any different than your situation with Lori. You insulted her and offered no apology for stepping over that line, yet you expected her to get over it.

Again, to get respect, you GIVE respect. You think everyone should cheer whenever you post your opinions, yet the moment they disagree, you sling mud (see Lori). That is not respect. You want others to treat you respectfully and justify their nasty comments, yet you make excuses when you call people names. (For doing the very things you do - expressing your own point of view.) I call this being a hypocrit.

No one called you a name. They just told you that they are tired of your long, rambling, off-topic posts. You say you are listening, but your behavior says otherwise.

Doug, either do your postings here, or find a blog.

Actually, getting your own blog might be a good idea. You will have all the control you want. You can get one by going here:

It's free.

Doug, you can write and I think you have something to say. Find a story to tell and you will do well. Read Hsrlan Ellison's Repent, Harlequin, Said the Ticktock Man (an award-winning short story) to see how pain such as you feel might be expressed in an educational and enlightening way.

I am looking forward to seeing your fiction in print. Keep us posted as to your progress. We are a community of writers. :)

Jim & Sue02; I tired to locate the post that irked Lori and after 400 I gave up. I do know she blind-sided me, or to be more exact I felt blind-sided. It was due to a previous similar response. In that previous interchange I provided the context for the "woman screams rape" analogy which was elevated to the "whore screams rape" phrase I used. I elevated it to fit the "prostitution" of quote-mining, mis-representation, and out-of-context attacks that "I felt were being lodged at me". I had just suffered s....

DCL,

I marked your last two posts in the "Future" topic as off-topic, but as one was addressed directly to me, I didn't want to ignore it, either.

"I looked more closely and saw your "pee-pee" analogy, but how could you dismiss the fact that my house was pee'd in first?"

I was referring to the Rumor Mill, and this is not your house. Nor is it mine. It's Kent's, if you want to be technical, and he's nice enough to maintain it for his guests.

I didn't see what Lori did which was so foul as to be deserving of your insult. It may be that I didn't read her posts closely enough, I don't know. To me, your comment about "the whore cries rape" was both offensive and completely over the line on a number of levels, and I marked it as such.

"Apologizing is not a benefit of snobbery. I don't even like to do it, but if it helps I will write Lori a message in "A Place For Race" to show my affection for her as a human and a woman who deserves to be afforded any amount of care and love any person can possibly extend."

Who would this help? Lori is gone. And given your defense of the whore line in another post, I don't understand what you would be apologizing for.

I don't want to get into a long argument with you, but I also didn't want to ignore your comment to me.

Best,
Jim

Doug, I called you the nutburger and I would do it again considering your current online behavior. It is becoming irrational.

Take a deep breath, sit back and LOOK at what you are doing. You are RANTING. Good grief man, isn't it possible to make a statement in less than 5000 words? And from what I can tell, you make the same statement over and over.

First, let me agree, the negro in America has suffered greatly. Theirs is a history of oppression and abuse. I, being white, cannot fully comprehend that.

However, let me disagree. I, being female, DO understand what it is like to be categorized and dismissed merely on the basis of a physical characteristic (of which I had no control.)

Prejudice can be subtle and unless a person has experienced that prejudice, they will often overlook its existence.

Okay -- that's over. MOVE ON! Your ranting becomes the pounding of Katrina after a while, a relentless battering we all pray will stop.

You have a talent with words, use them constructively. WRITE A NOVEL! Look at the works of Samuel Delaney or Olivia Butler. Great authors with important things to say. Go and do likewise.

Douglas,

Thanks for reading Demon Chaser, (part 1). It's nice to be read. It's kind of a side story I wrote while working on a novel. I kind of dabble in short stories, whereas novels are my main endeavor.

That said, I'm going to pass on your critique. As a writer, I get many, many rejections (and a few critiques) from literary agents and editors. While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, Speculations is a site for "Writers who want to be read" ... hence, I was under the impression most folks here were active writers, whether published or not, and I was looking to share a bit of the joy and pain of the process.

Dear Doug,

I am blown away by your replies, not least your review of "Cold Blooded." Thank you more than words can say for the many kind words and the sharp-eyed constructive criticism. You saw themes and connections in that story that I hadn't seen myself, and I read it over again with new eyes, unveiled by your perspective.

I love this: "There is a power in "Knowing What You Know" beyond Faith."

Amen, Brother. Thank you for sharing what you know with me.

Miss Lovely Child Woman Robin; GramMa, Ainnie, and Mother come from Louisanna (Whitecastle) with Deep Deep (Blues, Hoodoo, Spirituality, Soul, Godliness). I watched it all my life. I even think I live it (strangely). But again its like that thing Author Ashe is quoted in front his namesake stadium at Wimbolton (sp); "Life is what you earn, and Living is what you give!" I say this to you Robin because of what you gave me. In a confessional way, I'll tell Who ever reads this, that we (Mother, my Brother,....

Doug ... I am not sure if I am writing you in a place where you'll read this, but if so, I wanted to first give you my sincere sympathy at the loss of your sister. I can't imagine losing my brother -- it is too awful even to think about.

I also wanted to say that I, for one, am certainly NOT bothered by your posting about your metaphysical experiences. I had a very definite visit from my mother about 5 years after she died, in a time when I really needed to know she was still "around," so to speak. I wrote an essay about it if you're interested, but either way, treasure those "visits," and keep your happy memories close to the forefront.

Be well,
Robin
