Invitation to Communal Reflection: The War on Terrorism

"The experience of terrorism has seared our national soul. We are adjusting to life in a new era - an era shaped in a significant way by the experience of terrorism. We are adjusting to new security measures, and a heightened vigilance has replaced our assumptions about immunity. Our nation is at war....It has been understandably difficult for many of us to critically and morally assess the war on terrorism, and the national policies being shaped in the wake of September 11th."

For individuals and groups who wish to consider this reality in the light of faith, New York's Intercommunity Center for Justice and Peace offers a new reflection booklet, Casting Light on a Pathway to Peace. Representing forty-three religious congregations of women and men in the New York Tri-State area, the Center believes that it is in the best interest of recovery and healing, and in the interests of a sustainable peace, to critically and morally assess the war in which our country is now engaged. The materials they present are gathered from a variety of resources, from faith communities as well as public documents. They are arranged to follow the four phases of the Faith Praxis Cycle (: Experience, Analysis, Faith Reflection, Response) and can be used either in one, four or more sessions.

The topic is not light. It is however timely and a bountiful resource for responding to that part of our baptismal call that challenges us to promote the global common good as well as our own.

Copies are $4.00 (less for bulk orders) and can be ordered from:
