Archdiocese of Milwaukee Students Exceed State, National ACT Scores

MILWAUKEE – Students in 13 Archdiocese of Milwaukee high schools who took the ACT in 2002 exceeded state and national scores, according to data recently released by the archdiocesan Office for Schools, Child and Youth Ministries.

The composite score for the 1,523 Archdiocese of Milwaukee students who took the ACT was 22.9. Ninety-one percent of students enrolled in Catholic high schools took the ACT. More than 43,000 students in Wisconsin registered a 22.2 composite score. More than 1.1 million students throughout the United States took the ACT and recorded a composite score of 20.8.

"While the spiritual formation of students is the primary purpose of our Catholic schools, these results show that our students succeed academically as well," said Dr. Maureen Gallagher, Director of Catholic Education for the archdiocese. "These outstanding test scores are a testament to the students and staff members in our high schools. The hard work that goes in to educating our children is evidenced by high test scores. All those affiliated with Catholic high schools throughout the archdiocese - parents, students, staff members and supporters of Catholic education should be proud of these results."

There are 13 Catholic high schools in the 10-county Archdiocese of Milwaukee - Catholic Central High School, Burlington; St. Mary's Springs High School, Fond du Lac; St. Joseph High School, Kenosha; Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Milwaukee; Marquette University High School, Milwaukee, Messmer High School, Milwaukee; Pius XI High School, Milwaukee, St. Joan Antida High School, Milwaukee; St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary; St. Catherine High School, Racine; Thomas More High School, St. Francis; Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha; and Dominican High School, Whitefish Bay.
