Peace Pole Ceremony to be Held June 5

A six-sided, eight foot tall peace pole will be planted at the front entrance of the Archbishop Cousins Catholic Center, 3501 S. Lake Dr., St. Francis, home to the central offices of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 5, at 5:30 p.m. Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan will participate in the ecumenical service.

The peace pole will carry the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the following 12 languages: Arabic, English, Gaelic, German, Hebrew, Hmong, Italian, Odawa/Ojibway, Polish, Sign Language, Spanish and Swahili.

“This is a symbolic gesture of unity as we commit our ourselves to work toward peace,” said Celia Jackson, the Archbishop’s Delegate for Community Services.

Several parishes and schools throughout the 10-county archdiocese have peace poles and others will be encouraged to erect one on their premises as a symbol of their commitment to peace.
