Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan made a personal commitment to being an organ and tissue donor today. At right, the archbishop is shown signing an organ donor card at a news conference today.
Archbishop Dolan believes in the importance of organ donation and in making clear the teaching of the Catholic Church that "organ donation after death is a noble and meritorious act and is to be encouraged as an expression of generous solidarity." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 2296)
The Wisconsin Donor Network is the federally designated organ procurement organization supporting organ donation and transplantation in easter Wisconsin. It is located in Milwaukee and serves a population of 2.2 million people in a 10-county region, including Door, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboyga, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties.
