     National Donor Sabbath

National Donor Sabbath, which is Nov. 14-16, is part of the Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson's national Gift of Life Donation initiative. During this weekend in November, faith communities across the country focus on the critical need for organs, tissues, eyes and blood and their life-enhancing capabilities. Religious leaders participate in discussions of donation with their congregants, and faith communities sponsor donation awareness activities during this celebration of donation and life.

Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan made a personal commitment to being an organ and tissue donor by signing an organ donor card in September. Archbishop Dolan believes in the importance of organ donation and in making clear the teaching of the Catholic Church that "organ donation after death is a noble and meritorious act and is to be encouraged as an expression of generous solidarity." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 2296)

The Wisconsin Coalition on Donation has a website for this event at www.donatelifewi.org.
