     Mexican Economist Here in August

People of Faith in Southeastern Wisconsin have a unique opportunity to hear a presentation that will help us understand the intricacies of the global economy. Our faith traditions call us to be concerned about the common good. In our era that includes the economic well being of our sisters and brothers around the world.

Free Trade: Whom Does it Serve? is one of the questions Miguel Pickard will cover in his presentation on the global economy at 7:00 p.m. on August 25, 2005 at Alverno College’s Wehr Hall. While Miguel lives and works in Mexico, he is perfectly bilingual and has a gift for making economics easier to understand. In addition to the Free Trade Agreements his topic will include labor practices, and the environmental impact of transnational companies on people who live in the global south.

Our conversation with him will help us discover ways to live our faith and grow in solidarity with people who suffer the negative consequences of the current global economic system. This program is co sponsored by Alverno College, Catholics for Peace and Justice, the Central American Awareness Committee, Milwaukee Clean Clothes Campaign, the Peace and International Issues Committee of the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s Global Partners and the World Mission Ministries and the Office of Catholic Social Action of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
