     Nine Men to be Ordained Deacons June 3
 
  MILWAUKEE - Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, O.S.B., will ordain nine men as permanent deacons on Saturday, June 3, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 802 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee. The Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Permanent deacons are ordained to serve the community in charity and justice. Among the principal liturgical tasks of permanent deacons are: assisting bishops and priests at the Eucharist, making intercessions of offering petitions for the people, presiding in the absence of a bishop or priest at certain liturgical celebrations, administering baptism and officiating at marriages and funeral services, proclaiming and preaching the word of God, and blessing objects and persons within liturgical celebrations.

The nine men who will be ordained, their hometowns and their assigned parishes are:

Michael Finley Waukesha St. John Neumann, Waukesha
Thomas Hunt Milwaukee Ss. Peter & Paul, Milwaukee
David Lauer Kenosha Sacred Heart, Racine
Bruno Nguyen Greendale St. Anthony, Milwaukee
Richard Niggemann Elm Grove St. Mary, Elm Grove
Gordon Snyder Dousman St. Bruno, Dousman
David Sommers Milwaukee St. Matthias, Milwaukee
