     Organizing The Council

  "Who's On First?"
It's time to get organized! The old Abbott and Costello comedy routine is a good illustration of what can happen in a parish when communication isn't clear or when key players do not share a common vision or language for what they are hoping to accomplish together. Confusion and frustration, anger and bewilderment. Two sections of the new parish council manual can help you get organized to avoid these conflicts.

Section 12 - Leading with Vision: Planning Page 5
An overview of the council monthly priorities. After the council determines how and when it will review the various areas of mission, it will be important to communicate expectations and dates to the committees and staff members responsible for presentations during the year.

Pages 8-13
Council work pages. A monthly calendar with typical parish events and room to include your own!

Section 13 - Effective Councils
This section has practical suggestions for the officers, but it also has a section for all council members to discuss and come to agreement about.

Pages 9-10
Effective council members' responsibilities before, during and after the meeting. It should be clear from the beginning what our expectations of each other are, so we can encourage and hold each other accountable for the ministry entrusted to us.
