Celebrate Las Posadas For Justice At the Borders

How does God call us to treat the stranger in our midst? As we prepare to commemorate the travels and travails of Joseph and Mary at the time of Jesus' birth, we are invited join groups across America in praying a new version of the traditional Latin American Posadas. This is an act of solidarity with our migrant sisters and brothers seeking justice and respect for human rights.

Posadas Sin Fronteras: One People, One World, One God is available for downloading as a PDF (click the icon below) or directly from the web site of the Border Working Group of the Religious Task Force on Central America and Mexico http://www.rtfcam.org/resources/las_posadas.htm

Background:

Recent immigration laws have resulted in rising numbers of human rights violations at the U.S. border with Mexico and greater risk for those who try to cross the border. Thousands have died in the desert and mountains in their desperate and dangerous search for survival for themselves and their families. Rooted in Leviticus 18,33-34: When strangers sojourn with you in your land you shall do them no wrong. The strangers who sojourn with you shall be as natives among you and you shall love them as yourself, Church leaders have spoken out strongly, urging the government to change these policies. Participating groups include the American Friends Service Committee, Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program, Columban Justice and Peace Office, Conference of Major Superiors of Men, Franciscan Washington Office For Latin America, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, Mexico Solidarity Network, Mennonite Central Committee, Missionary Oblates Justice and Peace/Integrity of Creation Office, and the Religious Task Force on Central America and Mexico.
