Cathedral Dedication to be Televised Live on WMLW TV-41

MILWAUKEE – The dedication Mass for the renovated Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be carried live on WMLW TV 41, Saturday, Feb. 9. Coverage will begin at 10 a.m., with a CBS 58 News special report on the Cathedral Project, followed by live Mass coverage at 10:30 a.m. The dedication Mass will be rebroadcast Sunday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m.

“This is a great opportunity for us to provide a community service to our area,” said WMLW TV 41 Station Manager Jim Hall. “There has been so much publicity surrounding the renovation of St. John’s Cathedral and we are excited to be broadcasting this special Mass live as a special service to our community programming efforts at WMLW TV 41.”

“There are a limited number of seats inside the cathedral and this allows all those who can not attend the liturgy a way to participate,” said Jerry Topczewski, archdiocesan communications director. “The cathedral is a Milwaukee landmark and interest in seeing it extends well beyond the Catholic community. We are very pleased that TV 41 recognizes the value in televising the dedication.”

The cathedral renovation began in May of 2001 and the dedication marks the completion of the first phase of the Cathedral Project. The project includes the cathedral interior as well as transformation of the entire cathedral block to expand social outreach ministry programs.
