Videoconference to Link Vocation Discussions at 4 Schools

A videoconference will link four sites in Southeastern Wisconsin hosting preparation sessions for the III Continental Congress on Vocations. Each of the sites is an educational institution sponsored by a religious congregation.

Local religious congregations are celebrating World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life on TWO days this year: February 2 & 3! On Saturday, February 2nd from 10:00 till noon they will begin our local preparations for the III Continental Congress on Vocations by hosting local congresses at four sites simultaneously in Southeastern Wisconsin. During part of the congress the sites will be linked via videoconference to further the interaction and creativity. At weekend parish Masses throughout the diocese members of various congregations will reflect religious life.

You are invited to come, voice your opinion, help create a strategy that will affect vocation ministry in North America for the next ten years by participating in one of the local congresses!

They will be held On Saturday, February 2, from 10:00 to noon at four sites simultaneously in Southeastern Wisconsin. During part of the congress the sites will be linked via videoconference to further the interaction and creativity.

The purpose of our local Diocesan Vocation Congress is:

  • To exchange thoughts and feelings around ordained ministry and consecrated life.
  • To generate ideas that will form a cohesive and integrated vocations plan for North America

The information we generate will be forwarded to the organizers of the III Continental Congress on Vocations. The eight delegates from our area will use it to help formulate a common vocation strategy for the United States and Canada.

The III Continental Congress is being held at the invitation of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II in Montreal April 18-21, 2002. It is the third such congress, following those for Latin America (1994) and Europe (1997). The bishops' Conferences have the principal responsibility for the event: they are working in close collaboration with the Pontifical Work of Ecclesiastical Vocations and with the religious leadership and both diocesan and religious vocation directors' associations of Canada and the USA.

The purposes of the Congress are:

    • To establish a positive environment within North America for promoting vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life.
    • To unify and guide the Church in North America in its commitment to identify, discern and nurture these vocations.
    • To welcome future workers to the harvest with hope.
