Episode 5 - Pre-Season Testing

Show notes for Episode 5.

Winter testing can sometimes give you an insight into what to expect when the season actually starts. Not so much this year, as the weather has been playing havoc with everyone’s schedule. We discuss, including:

  • Who’s been crashing and needs a new licence
  • Renault’s new colour scheme (again)
  • Honda being absolutely nowhere

New and Notable

Apparently iTunes thinks that Sidepodcast is either new, or notable:

I’m not sure which, but either way it’s cool.

Thanks to everyone who’s subscribed and put the show up there, and if you’ve not already done so, please check out the Sidepodcast page on iTunes (while you’re there if you could leave us comment that’d be nice too).

Cheers, y’all.

Can You Digg It?

I’m not entirely sure how it is that we’ve done 4 whole episodes already. That means we’ve been podcasting for an entire month - time definitely flies when you’re having fun.

The podcast is listed in plenty of directories, because, you know, people have to be able to find it, but by far the most interesting one is Digg.

You’ve probably heard of Digg, but if not, it’s basically a way of everyone pointing to the things they like. So, you submit a news story, people digg it (or click to say they like it) and it gets higher and higher up the list. Now they’ve started listing podcasts as well - and we’re there in the Sports section.

If you’ve got two minutes to spare (and it really does only take two minutes), why not think about heading on over there and taking a look.

You know, we’re on there, under the sports section, and there’s a button saying ‘Digg It’. In the sports section. Big button. Digg it.

You know you want to.

Episode 4 - New Car Launches

Despite a host of technical problems, including visiting the same shop four or five times just to get a microphone that works, we’re still releasing the podcast on time. Woohoo. This episode has my anonymous friend talking a lot more than previous shows, and he didn’t seem all that chuffed about it. Normal service will be resumed next week!

Show notes for Episode 4.

In the space of a few short weeks, the majority of teams released their new Championship challengers. We discuss the merits and possibilities of the cars launched so far, including:

  • The rule changes they have to stick to
  • Renault’s new colour scheme
  • Ferrari’s wheel shenanigans

Episode 3 - Autosport International 2007

Last weekend we, and a host of other giddy motorsport fans, descended upon the Birmingham NEC to attend Autosport International. It was a really good day, and we took plenty of pictures. There was a distinct lack of F1 stands and personalities, but we still found plenty to talk about.

Show notes for Episode 3.

Find out what happened at “The Racing Car Show”, who was there, what the girls were like, and whether there were any cars at all, including:

  • How small is Anthony Davidson really
  • Is merchandise worth buying
  • Why did Ralf have black teeth

How To Listen

Now that we’re up and running and there are a couple of episodes in the can, I thought it would be a good idea to let you know your options for listening. There are four main ways that you can find and enjoy Sidepodcast.

  1. If you have iTunes, your best bet is to use the Podcast function within that. You can find us here (iTunes link), or just do a search for ’sidepodcast’.
  2. If you don’t have iTunes but use some other kind of podcast catcher, then you’ll need the RSS feed. Just copy and paste the url into your software of choice.
  3. If you don’t like RSS feeds, then you can keep an eye on the main page of the website. Whenever a new episode is up, there will be some accompanying show notes to go with it. If you click on the link located in the sentence “Show notes for episode…” then that particular episode will appear in your browser and you can listen online.
  4. If none of these options suits you and you would prefer to dip in and out of the show as and when you want, pick and choose what you want to listen to, then head to the archives page. Each episode will be listed there in backwards chronological order, so the most recent is at the top. Again, clicking on the links will open the episode in the browser for you to listen to.

Hope that all makes sense, so you can choose the easiest method of reaching us that fits your needs.

Episode 2 - Season Review 2006 (Part 2)

This weekend we were in Birmingham for the Autosport International motorshow. It’s not a fun-filled F1 fest but there was a little bit of Anthony Davidson goodness, and a line-up of last year’s car. But anyway, we’ll be talking about that next week. This week you get to catch up with the second half of our 2006 review.

Show notes for Episode 2.

Relive the highs and lows of the second half of the season, including:

  • Talk of the mass damper fiasco
  • Button’s first Grand Prix victory
  • Alonso’s second championship title.

Episode 1 - Season Review 2006 (Part 1)

Much blood, sweat, tears and petty little arguments later, we have finally finished editing our very first proper episode. I suppose a little bit of love got thrown in there as well, because I have never edited anything before, and this was really quite a lot of fun.

Show notes for Episode 1.

Relive the highs and lows of the first half of the season, including:

  • Talk of the new qualifying system
  • Schumacher chasing Alonso’s tail
  • The Monaco qualifying fiasco.

First Episode Is On It’s Way

Only complete and utter podcast rookies would try and record something on New Year’s Eve - the one night you are guaranteed to have some fireworks. Thankfully, we finished by 9pm, and had only one rogue bang in the middle of our recordings.

So, Part One of our season review special is on it’s way, I have edited 99% of it today, and it just needs the finishing touches.

Stay tuned.
