HISTORY

The Slipstream Conference is a celebration of some of the finer writing in the contemporary science fiction and fantasy field. Writers from around the nation -- including Dale Bailey ("The Resurrection Man's Legacy"), Michael Bishop, Karen Joy Fowler (Sarah Canary), Kathleen Ann Goonan (Queen City Jazz), Ann Kennedy (editor of The Silver Web), John Kessel (Corrupting Dr. Nice), James Morrow (Towing Jehovah), Lewis Shiner (Glimpses), and Jeff VanderMeer (Dradin, In Love) -- gathered for Slipstream 1 in April 1997, a weekend of art, music, theater, readings and panel discussions of the importance and influence of recent slipstream literature.

Slipstream 2, featuring Bruce Sterling (coiner of the term "slipstream" and author of such works as Heavy Weather), Mary Doria Russell (The Sparrow), and Paul di Filippo (Lost Pages) was held February 1999.
