- 166 Mile Loop - South via 34
to 40 - over Berthoud Pass with some nice views and twisties, a
short jaunt along I-70 to Silverthorne then up 9 to Kremmling and back to Grand Lake.
- 172 Mile Loop - West via 34 to
Kremmling, up 40 and 14 to Walden, then south via 125 and over
Willow Creek Pass (more twists) back to Grand Lake.
- 184 Mile Loop - East over the
highest pass in Colorado to Estes
Park via 34, then south to Nederland along 7, a short jog on I-70
Westbound, north to Granby along 40, then back to Grand Lakes
via 34. Map says 4 hours, realistically about 6 hours.
- 206 Mile Loop - Longer route
similar to the 172 mile loop, except we swing out to Steamboat Springs.
- 237 Mile Loop - Grand Lake to
near Granby, then up 125 over Willow Creek Pass, up to Walden, then
across the divide and Cameron Pass via 14 (great winding river canyon road)
and down 27 to outside Loveland, then back West along 43 via Estes
Park and over the pass back to Grand Lake. Map says 5 hours,
but it's likely closer to 7. One of the best summer rides
in Northern Colorado!
- 270 Mile Loop - Longer version
of the 237 mile loop, except we loop out to Kremmling, up through
Muddy pass, then up around Walden etc. Plan on at least 8 hours for
this ride.
Some notes about safety and comfort in the area: The
estimated drive times do not take into account rest stops, meals,
animals or road conditions.
There are gas stops along each route at intervals of 80 miles or
less.
Be on the look out for deer on roadways in the area, they are
numerous and not very shy -- even in daylight.
Some of the passes - especially Iceberg Pass on HWY-34 in and out of
Estes Park - can be quite chilly even at mid-summer-day. Meanwhile
the lower elevations may be quite warm. Be prepared with warm layerable
clothing that you can peel off at the lower elevations.
