# Staff Profile: Sophie Nathan

This month we're heading straight to the heart of the matter. We've bypassed all those horrible stinking boys who twiddle faders and eat pies for a living and turned our attentions to the lady who holds the thing together - the delectable Sophie. Here for your entertainment and momentary distraction are some of her answers to some questions.

MILC: What do you do here at Miloco?

Sophie: My job title is Studio Manager, but that can mean anything from taking bookings to making sandwiches.

MILC: How long have you been at Miloco?

Sophie: 6 months

MILC: What do you think Miloco can offer over other studios?

Sophie: An absolutely fantastic service and absolutely fantastic studios! We do whatever it takes to make people feel comfortable and help a session run well.

MILC: Why do you like working at Miloco?

Everyone who works for Miloco loves what they do which makes for a great atmosphere in all of the studios and everybody gets on really well which helps! It's also exciting to work for a company that's constantly evolving, coming up with new ideas and moving with the times.

MILC: Which artist would you most like to see work through the door?

Sophie: Stevie Wonder - absolute legend.

MILC: How has your industry changed over the last 5 years?

It's changed massively. I've been working in studios for 9 years and in that time the record company budgets for making music have almost disappeared, which makes my job very hard. I have to tread the very fine line of keeping things within budget but also making enough money for the studios to be able to function and keep everybody happy.

Also...

MILC: Choose a recent visiting artist and the one thing that stood out about them.

Sophie: The Futureheads - They really do look that smart all the time!

Favourite music section:

MILC: What was your favourite album when you were:

a) 5-12 yrs old?
Adam & The Ants, Prince Charming (first record I ever bought!)

#

b) 13-16?
I think it was probably Metallica's Black Album or Nirvana's Nevermind (I was going through a goth phase)
c) 17-25?
Too many to pick one but ones that stand out are Stevie Wonder Songs In the Key Of Life, Leftfield, Leftism, Les Rythmes Digitales Darkdancer, Bjork Homogenic, Daft Punk Homework, Radiohead Kid A, I could go on...!

MILC: What is your favourite album cover and why?

Sophie: I've sadly completely forgotten what album covers look like, everything's on itunes now!

MILC: What's been your favourite act of the last 12 months?

There's been so much, at the moment I'm listening to the Spank Rock album, which is really good. Also Hot Chip, new album probably out by the time this comes out. There's also a great band called The Rank Deluxe on Fat Cat who are just doing their first stuff.

Silly questions:

MILC: What's the last film you saw at the cinema (was it any good)?

S: Hostel - It was the most horrific film I think I have ever seen. The bit with the blowtorch...eugh!

MILC: What's your favourite item of clothing and why?

S: I don't have a favourite, everything is worn in equal measure.

MILC: What's the last book you read/what are reading now?

S: Last book I read was A Spy In The House Of Love by Anais Nin, at the moment I'm reading The Death Of Ivan Ilyich by Tolstoy. Both great reads and can be found in all good bookstores now.

# MILC: Who are you least likely to be sending a Christmas card to this year?

Ken Livingstone, he is a twit and makes my life harder than it need be.

MILC: What was your most recent holiday destination and what did you do there?

S: Paris, for a lovely weekend break. It was the first time I have been to Paris and absolutely fell in love with the city. I did lots of walking, lots of eating lovely French food, and lots of brushing up my (very rusty) conversational French.

MILC: What are you doing next weekend?

S: Who knows, I am a social butterfly who lives life on the edge! Probably my washing...

MILC: Who would win a fight between...A new VW Camper van and an old VW Beetle?

S: Camper van hands down. I had a beetle as my first car (it was purple and called Lilac Lil) but I have always wanted a split screen camper.

Final music section:

MILC: Please select the five tunes you'd like played at your funeral.

S: No, sorry, too morbid. They can play whatever they like, I won't be alive to hear it! Well as long as it's not Gareth Gates or anything like that, that would just be adding insult to injury.

MILC: Which is the best gig you've ever been to?

S: Michael Jackson's Bad tour at Wembley Stadium at some point in the 80's. Kim Wilde was in support (or out of it, I remember the scandal when one of her boobs fell out while she was jumping up and down in an 80's fashion to 'Kids In America')

MILC: What's the worst behaviour you've ever witnessed at a gig (on/off/back stage)?

S: Couldn't possibly say. Discretion is the name of the game!

The end bit:

Thank you very much for submitting yourself to the Miloco Magazine inquisition; your time, effort and patience is much appreciated.

MILC: Before signing off, is there anything you would like to ask us?

S: Can I have a pay rise?
