Chemical Regulation
Through his position as Ranking Member of the House Government Reform Committee, Rep. Waxman has investigated how the Administration, at the request of the U.S. chemical
industry, mounted a campaign to block the efforts of the European Union to
require chemical companies to adequately assess the risks of chemicals that are
sold in the marketplace.

Rep. Waxman Introduces H.R. 4308, “The Kid Safe Chemicals Act of 2005”
On November 10, 2005, Rep. Waxman introduced H.R. 4308, “The Kid Safe Chemicals Act” to respond to the growing body of scientific literature which identifies chemical exposures as a factor in the rise of disorders and diseases such as birth defects, asthma, neurological and developmental disorders, infertility and certain types of cancer. H.R. 4308 will reform the nation’s failed approach to chemical regulation and protect kids by recognizing their special vulnerabilities and requiring manufacturers to provide health and safety information prior to distributing a chemical in consumer products.
