Letters Signed

On March 23, 2006, Rep. Waxman sent a follow-up letter expressing disappointment that the State Department had failed to provide an adequate response concerning the decision of the US mission to the UN to oppose the candidacy of international LGBT non-governmental organizations to the UN ECOSOC mission.
Letter to Secretary of State Rice

On February 7, 2006, Rep. Waxman signed a letter asking Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to explain why the U.S. representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) voted for an Iranian-sponsored initiative to block two international gay and lesbian organizations from obtaining consultative status within the organization. In doing so, the United States joined some of the world's most oppressive regimes, among them China, Cuba, Sudan, and Zimbabwe, and drastically reversed the past U.S. position on this effort.
