The winner of the EU’s 50th anniversary logo competition has been decided. Szymon Skrzypczak from Poland has created the logo that will be used for the celebrations of the Rome Treaty next year and will soon be recognised all over Europe.

Szymon Skrzypczak’s design stood out against more than 1,700 other logo proposals by very talented young designers and design students from all EU countries as well as from Bulgaria and Romania.

At today’s award ceremony, journalist from all over Europe, representatives of EU institutions as well as the ten pre-selected finalists curiously waited for the jury’s decision. The ten excited newcomers entered the European Commission pressroom one after another, while their logos were presented in a background slideshow. Finally, EU Commission’s Vice President, Margot Wallström, announced the winner: Szymon Skrzypczak. “50 years of peaceful co-operation, growing prosperity and security in Europe are reasons to celebrate. It is also an excellent occasion to discuss what we expect from the EU in the future, for our children and generations to come. This is why the focus of all celebrations should be on activities in which as many people as possible can participate”, Mrs. Wallström said.
