Industrial activity is a major contributor to air pollution in Israel.

Because introduction of new legislation like the Clean Air Act is a complex and protracted process, IUED filed a petition to the High Court of Justice in 2003 against the Environment Ministry, the Manufacturers' Association and the Israel Electric Company.

Our petition demands the introduction of specific emission standards for criteria pollutants in industry and power generation. Specific emissions standards would replace the voluntary and problematic Covenant for Air Pollution Abatement between the Manufacturers’ Association and the Environment Ministry.

IUED is also striving make chronic industrial polluters accountable for their polluting activities. We aim to bring about improvements in air quality by placing the burden of responsibility squarely on the shoulders of corporate directors. To this end, IUED has filed criminal law suits against major polluters in the Ramat Hovav industrial zone in southern Israel.
