Notes: |
The VariViggen is the first of the canard type planes Bert Rutan made so popular. It is a rather large, two place,
complex airplane of wood and fiberglass construction with retractable landing gear, powered by a Lycoming 0-320 150 Hp engine.
This aircraft was built by Carl Pieper over a 9 year period and flown from 1991 until 1994. About 20 VariViggens are know to have
been completed and flown with less than five currently flying. The VariViggen is the fore runner
of the Voyager, perhaps Bert Rutan's most famous design, which now hangs in the National Air and Space Museum.
