Archbishop Dolan and Bishop Sklba to Dedicate Women's Assessment Center on June 8

Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan and Auxiliary Bishop Richard J. Sklba will dedicate the Women's Assessment Center, part of the overall Cathedral Project, on Sunday, June 8. The bishops will concelebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 802 N. Jackson St., at 8 a.m. and dedicate the Women's Assessment Center at approximately 9:15 a.m. Following the dedication, guests will have the opportunity to tour the Center.

The Women's Assessment Center, will begin operation on Monday, June 9, when women and families currently being served at a facility on Fourth and Brown Streets will move to the Center. The Center will be a safe haven for women and their children, as well as a coordination point for assessments to help people access more permanent shelter, transitional housing, counseling, job training and other services. The Center will accommodate 36 women and eight families. Each woman who visits the Center is assigned to a case manager who conducts an assessment and develops a program for the woman.

The Center is a collaborative partnership designed to maximize resources and expertise, while avoiding duplication of services. The Center partners include the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist parish, the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, Catholic Charities, the ANET Program of Milwaukee County, the American Red Cross, Columbia-St. Mary's Hospital, and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Collaborative relationships with other social service agencies also have been established.
