     Donations for Earthquake Victims Top $75,000
 
  The Archdiocese of Milwaukee's World Mission Office has received more than $75,000 in donations for victims of the Jan. 13 earthquake in El Salvador.

"The generosity of people throughout southeastern Wisconsin has been tremendous," said Sr. Frances Cunningham, SSSF, Director of the Office for World Mission. "We've received donations from parishes, schools and individuals who want to help those who are suffering in El Salvador.

"All of the money that we receive is sent directly to crews on site and is being used for the basic necessities of life," Cunningham said.

The earthquake registered a 7.6 magnitude, killed at least 844 Salvadorans, and caused close to $1 billion in damage, half of El Salvador's annual budget. The region was hit by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on Feb. 13 and a 5.3 magnitude earthquake on Feb. 17, complicating recovery efforts.
