What's This Song?

Packager: Stuart Phelps-Jack Reeves-Jessie Martin Productions
Airing History: October 26, 1964-September 24, 1965
Host: Win Martindale
Announcer: Steve Dunne

Wink Martindale's very first game show! At the time he hosted this musical game show, he was only known was "Win" Martindale.

The Main Game: Name that tune..then sing it.

Two teams, each comprised of a celebrity guest star and a civilian contestant, played to identify the titles of tunes. A correct identification was worth 20 points. After identifying the song, the team could snag up another 20 points if the celebrity guest could correctly sing the first 4 bars of the song.

Celebrity guest Bobby Rydell attempts to get the lyrics right.

The opposing team could attempt to steal the 20 points by challenging if they believed the lyrics of the song were incorrect. Upon challenging the incorrectly sung tune, they could steal the 20 points by singing it correctly.
A challenge to a correctly sung tune cost the challenging team 20 points.
The first team to 100 points won the game and advanced to the bonus game.

The Bonus Game: The Minute Medley

The clock is ticking for Joanie Summers and her civilian partner in their attempt to identify the 10 songs.
The winning team played this bonus game where they tried to identify 10 songs in 60 seconds at $20 per correct response. That's it.

What's This Show?

The producers must have had a lot of faith in this format (WHY?), because surprisingly enough, this show was reworked and revived under the title Win With the Stars with host Allen Ludden in 1968. Win With the Stars was a little more engaging than its predecessor, and it featured some notable celebrities such as Peter Marshall, Kaye Ballard, and Paul Lynde.

There's no telling how many episodes of this show exist. The pilot for this series exists (under a different title) along with at least one more episode. I've heard from a source that Wink himself may have more episodes in his possession, but I've not seen any proof of it. Quite frankly, they'd only be worth acquiring for the rarity and for the fact that it's Wink's first game.
