Archbishop Dolan to Lead Three Rosary Prayer Gatherings

Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan will lead three rosary prayer gatherings during the month of December. While the month of October is traditionally reserved as the month of the rosary, it is especially appropriate to pray the rosary during Advent because of Mary's place in Church history.

In October, Pope John Paul II announced the start of the "Year of the Rosary." In his apostolic letter, the Pope presents the Marian prayer if prayed “with devotion and not mechanically” as a “meditation on the mysteries of the life and work of Christ.” In that same letter, John Paul II added five new "mysteries of light," which contemplate Jesus' public life.

The five new mysteries are: Jesus' baptism in the Jordan; his self-manifestation at the wedding of Cana; his proclamation of the Kingdom of God, with his call to conversion; his transfiguration; and his institution of the Eucharist, as the sacramental expression of the paschal mystery.

Archbishop Dolan will speak on the significance of the rosary's new mysteries of light and will lead rosary prayer gatherings at the following sites:

Tue., Dec. 10, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 812 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee, Noon.

Mon., Dec. 16, National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, 1525 Carmel Rd., Holy Hill, 7:30 p.m.

Sat., Dec. 21, Schoenstatt Shrine, W284 N404 Cherry Lane, Waukesha, 9:30 a.m.
