This is Punk Rock Blues Volume 1
Holy Smokes the Church is on fire!

I love it when I get my sorry soul sold back to me. That's just what the fine folks behind the UK's
Not The Same Old Blues Crap scene have done with the release of This is Punk Rock Blues Volume 1. Oh sure maybe some of this tasty Crap is a bit more punk rock (as opposed to yr kids punque roque) than punk blues but that ain't gonna stop me from turning it up louder and shoutin' out a track by track rundown. The first hit is those irrepressible lads from the south side of the tracks Mudlow starting things broiling with their own brand of under-Beefheart-ian jump blues that goes by the name of
Zane Moreet. This momma packs a hunerd weight sax solo that'd have James Chance running' to
slam his horn back in the case. Clambake wields the second and closing slots (the second piece being 98% instrumental) rockin' like Lee County killin' Circle Jerks. Gaffer Hexam hit slot three with its
New Blues downtrod head bangin' fist raisin anthemic sing-along Ground Down. They again pound a smile on ya at track 14 with our fave down life love song since Biggie's Me n' My B**** called Tyburn's Blossom. Guaranteed a slot on yr next Valentine's mix tape. Y'all know Detroit's one man xtravanganza Jawbone. His piece 4 11 44 rolls like Bob Log's pappy's daddy. T-Model Ford appears here with an early version of Take a Ride With Me. This is a previously unreleased version as are 11 of the 15 tracks on this disc. Fat Possum Records own Bruce Watson recorded it in Uncle T-Mo's living room about eight years ago when the first started working together and Bruce handpicked this track personally
for this set. The Killer B's storm in at number six with a cover of Robert Pete William's Grown So Ugly whichdamn! It just wails and nails like the true meaning of "it's in 'em and it's got to come out"!
Chicken Legs Weaver blows out one of my fave songs of the year here with Street Cleaner. If they
ain't the best damn bar band at that stank dive in the sub-basement of Hell then you haven't played
this loud enough or early enough. Speakin'of Ol' Slew foot The Dirt represent on track eight with Thirteen Devils. A fuzzed out slide gitar ride thru heck and hell and back again with Bub hisself doin' the drivin'. Petit Vodo's Relaxxx shows the franco mix-master swingin tight like a Fall outtake chopped and skrewed. Get Down! Number ten is Son of Dave with Goddamn. Messed up beat. Easy to dance too. I give it a 13. Goddamn! Back from his heart attack and bigger than ever is Seasick Steve and the Level Devils honkin' on Ruff Side. Keeping it "dirty and a little bit funky, keep it movin' like a jungle monkey". I just gotta say it again- Goddamn! Catweezel scores number twelve with, oddly enough for
a punk rock blues song a track name droppin' the be-hornded one called Devil. "No ones gonna listen when your voice is louder than your work" they sing none too loudly and speaking volumes. Who,
you wonder copped the illustrious lucky thirteen spot? Why it's  ex-Killer B's Tony Moon's song
Herky Jerky and the earlyearly Stones are pissed! That about sums 'er up kids. All rough and rugged and glorious fifty minutes and ten greasy seconds. Bust out yr Pay Pal plastic and drop your digits at www.PunkRockBlues.co.uk and while yr there pick up a sweet and sturdy Not The Same Old Blues Crap t-shirt. Might as well buy your soul back now off'n the ground floor before the corporate typewriter monkey machine gets its scaly nibs on it and tries to hawk it to you freshly sucked
dry five years from now.
