Dancing for kids

Dancing for children can teach them rhythm, coordination, posture and confidence, and it’s fun too. Brisbane has literally hundreds of dancing schools for children and it's impossible to list them all here. But here’s a few tips:

  • Classes are often in church halls, school grounds or community centres.
  • Keep an eye on community noticeboards in your local area or ads in the local paper for contact details to your nearby dance school.
  • Since there is not a single organising body for children’s dance, it may help to ask for recommendations from other parents
  • If your child wants to learn dancing (they can begin from age four), you can check that the teacher is registered with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) or the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (Comdance).
  • Teachers of children’s dance need to have a blue card.

If you run a dance studio that offers classes for children, please enter your details in our directory so that the parents of Brisbane can find you online.
