On February 25, 2008, more than 150 imams from 28 European countries have concluded the proceedings of a two-day conference in Brussels, Belgium, with declaring the launch of the European Assembly of Imams and Spiritual Guides.
Wanis El-Mabrook was nominated as the head of the new body of European imams and spiritual guides. IslamOnline.net's European Muslims Zone will host Mr. El-Mabrook in a live dialogue on Thursday, March 6, at 12:00 GMT.
He graduated from the faculty of Da`wah and Usul Al-Fiqh. He holds MA in fatwa method in western countries from Wales University. El- Mabrook is the former manager of the Islamic center in Sheffield. He joined the Israa` Islamic Center in Cardiff, Wales, as an imam and spiritual guide.
Mr. Wanis used to be a lecturer of shari`ah at the European college in Wales for four years.
Currently, he is the director of the European institute for humanitarian studies in Birmingham, and a professor of Fiqh there. Moreover, he is the director of Da`wah department at the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE). He also cooperates with the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) as an investigatory member.
