Popcorn Christmas Balls

Created by Susan

Materials needed:
  • Glass Craft Christmas Balls.     MAKE SURE THE METAL PART CAN BE REMOVED.
  • Microwave Popcorn (about 20 kernels per Christmas Ball)
  • Microwave
  • Small Paper Bag
  • Glitter, Paints, or anything else you choose to decorate your Christmas Ball with.
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
1. Carefully remove metal top from glass ball.
2. Place 15-25 kernels for ball on a napkin.  (Try to wipe some of the oily buttery substance off.  You will need some to make the popcorn pop.)
3. Place the kernels in the glass ball.  For a fuller ball add more kernels, for partially filled use less.  Then place the glass ball in a small paper bag.

4. Make sure there is no metal on the ball.  Place your bag with the ball inside into the microwave.

5. Cook for about 90 seconds.  Listen for popping.  If it has popped and stopped you will want to turn off your microwave early.  If it is not popping, you will need to continue popping longer.

6. Let it sit briefly in the microwave.  The ball will be HOT!

7. Remove and let COOL.

8.  Put the metal piece back in, tie a ribbon around it and add a Christmas Ornament hanger to the loop.

Additional things:  If you would like to add glitter, you may sprinkle some in before or after popping the corn.  It will clump more in the oily butter substance if you add it before and stick in that area of the ball.  If you want to paint your ball, let it cool and then paint it as you wish.

Decorate your tree, mantel or any place of your choice with this beautiful

Christmas Tree Ball.
