DRAGONS ON PARADE

In China and Vietnam, the dragon is a symbol of good luck.  During the New Year’s holiday, people have a dragon parade.  Here’s a dragon that you can make for your own parade.

Created by Ms. Brenda & Ms. Edith

Materials needed:
  • Two sheets of construction paper (Use two different colors)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Tongue depressor
  • Tape
  • Tacky glue
  • Tagboard
  • Crayons or markers
  • Sequins
  • Dragon head pattern click here

1.  Print out the dragon head and color.  Glue it onto tagboard and cut out.

2.  Glue the head to a tongue depressor and let dry.

3.  For the body/tail of the dragon cut out the two colors of construction paper in strips.  Cut the paper 1" wide.  The sample shown used paper 36" long.  If your paper is not that long simply tape ends together to make it 36" long and 1" wide.

4.  Take the end of one long strip and lay it crosswise over the end of the other strip.

5.  Now take turns folding one strip over the other until you reach the ends of both strips.  Tape both ends together and open the dragon body.

6.  To decorate add sequins for the eyes.
