Family Tree
Created by Ms Jane @ West Wyandotte

Materials needed:
  • Tree branch
  • Curling ribbon or string
  • Construction paper
  • Leaf pattern click here
  • Wax paper
  • Crayon shavings
  • An iron
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Family photos

1. Make a print of the leaf pattern on your computer.

2. Lay the leaf pattern on top of the contruction paper.  Using an exacto knife, cut out the leaf shape.  As you cut, remember that you will be using the outside frame of the leaf.  You will need to cut two leaf frames for each leaf you make.

3. Place a sheet of wax paper (slightly larger than your leaf shape) on a flat, heat-proof surface.

4. Sprinkle a small amount of crayon shavings in the center of the wax paper.

5. Place a second sheet of wax paper on top of the shavings.

6. Have an adult iron the two sheets of wax paper together.  Use a low heat setting, and place a paper towel on top of your project to protect the iron.

7. Position and glue a leaf frame on the wax paper.  Flip it over and glue a second frame on for backing.

8. Cut around the leaf shape to create a frame for your stained glass leaf.

9.  Select a family photo, trim to the appropriate size, and glue to the center of your leaf.

10.  Create a leaf for each family member, and  tie your leaves onto your branch with curling ribbon.

Leaves look beautiful hanging in a window
or in any location with good lighting!
