Pumpkin Turkey Decoration

Created by Ms. Brenda
Materials needed:
  • One small to medium-sized pumpkin
  • Empty plastic detergent containers in various colors
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Pencil or pen
  • Small kitchen knife
  • Patterns

Directions:

1. Rinse out empty detergent containers and let dry.

2. Print out the head, wings, feet and feather patterns.  Cut them out.

3. Take the empty plastic jugs and cut out large flat pieces from it.  Have an adult help you cut out these pieces.

4. Trace around the patterns onto the plastic and cut them out.  Make six feathers.  When cutting out the head, use a hole punch for the eyes.  Also when cutting out the beak and wattle, it is easier if you start the cut with the hole punch.

5. Insert the head, wings, feet and six feathers as shown in the sample.  Have an adult help make slits in the pumpkin with the knife.  Make the slits large enough so that the pointed end of the piece easily slides inside.

6. Since the insert pieces are made of plastic, this pumpkin would make a good outdoor decoration, too!
